SNK editing games in compilations!
Does the editing of old SNK games on modern systems get on anyone else nerves?! I just bought Art of Fighting anthology and Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 (both PS2 games) from Toys R Us for 5 bucks each! I was really excited to get home and play them in standard def component on my big flat CRT. The games look absolutely amazing! As close to arcade perfect as I can come to in my own home. Yup all the games look perfect... except for one thing... THIS STUPID #@$%&*# WHITE BLOOD!!!! Art of Fighting 3, which is pretty much the main reason the compilation is worthwhile, is the only one of those three which is edited with ridiculously stupid looking white blood. On the Fatal Fury Battle archives vol. 2, all three games are edited with gigantic retarded white blood splatter and puddles. Changing the languages makes no difference on any of the games!
They did it to us with almost every US release of any Metal Slug game until anthology just recently, which was great but long overdue. If they had done it with Samurai Shodown Anthology... well I don't even want to think about what that would have done to me.
Why is it that they do this abomination to these classics? I always check reviews, but its really hit and miss whether the reviewer mentions the white blood or not... which I find completely baffling!
I'm by no means obsessed with gore... I just want accurate emulation of games that are 15 years old! At least just take the blood out completely. If you're going to ruin our games, don't make them look even more stupid!! What ever entered their minds to think that WHITE BLOOD is a good idea in a game?!!

All have to say is why a Capcom Warrior is even playing SNK games in the first place?
That said I am glad that at least we have something. I would prefer the blood re, but would rather it white then no game at all. I am one of the people who thinks Mortal Kombat is better on the SNES over the Genesis.

This was done back in the day too. If you play NG games on an MVS/AES set to Japan, there will be red blood. Set to the US, its white 'sweat'. This is all do to with the brouhaha about Mortal Kombat, Night Trap, Tipper Gore, and such from the early 90s. So they're just using the game data set to, wait for it... US regional settings.

Re: SNK editing games in compilations!
Sorry, I was a bit enraged when I posted that, fresh off the discovery.
I just don't understand why they think this is acceptable in this day and age. Like I said, I am not a blood maniac, I just want accuracy. The white just looks cheap and silly.
I don't see the dates on any of the boxes, but I think Fatal Fury B Archives Vol 2 and Art of fighting Anthology were both released prior to Samurai Shodown Anthology and Metal Slug Anthology, so maybe they realized the error of their ways.

Yes, they were. I also think that the games with blood in the SNK classics compilation had blood included, for what it's worth.Capcomwarrior wrote: I don't see the dates on any of the boxes, but I think Fatal Fury B Archives Vol 2 and Art of fighting Anthology were both released prior to Samurai Shodown Anthology and Metal Slug Anthology, so maybe they realized the error of their ways.

Mortal Kombat on sega genesis well worth playing. I couldn't stop playing the blood mode after that it was more fun. The Fatalities were also great.

Re: SNK editing games in compilations!
Cool, thanks. I'll probably get that one eventually(SNK Arcade Classics). Just still trying to find out which games on that one are emulated properly. I have heard iffy things about that, but I'll prob grab it eventually.
I guess its not technically an issue of accuracy, as Hobie-wan stated, its just set to the US machine setting. I guess I just don't consider the US versions of these games to be accurate representations of the original Japanese products, with that silly white blood. Haha.
Anyway, they look great otherwise. I love playing these old arcade games in standard def component, via my ps2. Its probably not quite RGB, but it must be pretty close. (much better than S-Vid) Really puts the arcade experience in my living room, scanlines, bright colors and all!

I honestly didn't even know that there was blood in Metal Slug until I played Metal Slug Anthology. All this time, I thought that you just shot enemies in their canteens or something.

I didn't know that SNK did that. Damn, that sucks. As for the Metal Slug "sweat" I remember there being a game that didn't even have that. It was just you shot the naz... I mean soldiers and they just fall down.
