Sega 32x questions?

Post by c0r33 »

Im looking at buying one but the cables are missing on the one I am thinking about getting. I have a model 2 genesis and am looking at getting a model 2 SCD. What are the cables I will need to get to avoid any problems? Also what are the best cables I should be using Ive seen the 32x run through AV as well as another cord im not sure the name though?

The only cables you'll need is a cable that runs from the Gen2 output to the 32X input. Then another cable will be output from the 32X to your TV of choice. With a Sega CD you can get the stereo audio out directly out of the Sega CD itself. You get full Genesis/32X/Sega CD audio out of the Sega CD regardless of which kind of game you are running at the time.

You have it easier by using a Gen2 cable-wise. With the Gen1 you need an adapter cable and an audio mixing cable as well that that doesn't apply in your case.

Sorry im dumb lol. Correct me if im wrong but does the 32x not take its own separate power supply and the 2 cables ive seen are your red/white/yellow AV cables and then this cable that goes from the back of the 32x to the genesis? So I ask again do i need my own separate power supply brick as well as the AV cables or do I need this other cable?

Ok, to clarify, lets assume a Gen model 2 with 32x. You'll need:

2 of the later Gen power bricks with the smaller yellow tip
1 AV cable to go from 32X to TV
1 connector cable to go from the back of the Gen to the 32x

If you're going to have a Gen model 1, you'll also need the adapter for the connector cable that makes it fit the bigger plug on the back of the Genesis would need one of each of the different Gen power bricks.

If you add a Sega CD, it will also need its own early style Gen power brick.

Yes, as Hobie said, you'll need a power supply for each individual machine. I guess I don't think of a power brick as a "cable" so I left that out of my original description.

It's not really going to be all that easy to find all the cables by themselves, it's a whole lot easier to buy a 32X complete which comes with all the cables and power brick.

The Gen2 and 32X use standard 9-pin din connectors. I'm pretty sure a cable like this will work just fine.

That will get you from the Gen2 to the 32X, will still need a cable from the 32X to the TV but those are all the same for all Gen2s/32Xs so should be fairly easy to find. The power bricks are relatively common but, again, finding one by itself is the trick.

Like collecting any other system, buying things complete is typically easier and less expensive than buying it all piece by piece. You don't need one complete in the box (which is more expensive) to get one that is complete with all the components needed to make it work. I mean, really, all you have to do is shop around. Here is one with power and cables for $25: http://www.collectorscardsandgames.com/new/Sega32X.html
