Which gaming magazine is the best right now?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Anyone else here collects scans of retro magazines? Pity the "scene" doesn't have enough human scanners to churn out more scanned content. You can count them using a single digit figure.

Plenty of magazine scans available on sites like Underground-Gamer.

I collected many of the old UK magazines back in the day, and the high res scans are a nice way to fill in the missing issues.

Except they're not usually scanned by UG members, they just chuck them on the tracker without due acknowledgement to the original scanner(s). It's no easy task getting those mags scanned.

Well I guess Play was my favorite gaming mag. Apparently they've gone bankrupt and now Dave Halverson is relaunching GameFAN.

I wonder what will happen to Play subscribers? I had something like nine issues left.

From what I understand, most of the staff of GameFan went to work at Hardcore Gamer rather than Play. Play was more an off-shoot of Gamer's Republic - which itself was an off-shoot of GameFan, but that's like copying a VHS of a VHS.

I somehow doubt this new GameFan will be anything like the old one... but I'll probably still check it out. GameFan is the reason I got into importing games.

With Brady Fletcher going to EGM, I'm not sure if I'll even bother with the new GameFAN. I like Dave Halverson's enthusiasm, but Play was a lot better when he stepped down from the EIC seat. I'm not sure I can get behind another magazine helmed by him.

Anyone here read GamePro nowadays? I've been wondering what the magazine is like since John Davison joined the crew.

Any opinions on Nintendo Power? Also interested in a Wii to DS coverage ratio.
