Alright, I tried to correct my mistakes grammer police. I hope you're happy you know-it-all nazis  I corrected 5 there/their mistakes, not to bad since there are over 20 there/theirs.

@Inazuma
Do you also call a Super Nintendo a Super Famicom, a Master System a Mark III, a Turbo Grafx16 a Pc-engine, a NES a Famicom, and a whatever, whatever it's called in somewhere else.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Youngling techie-
Found retro games accidentally in a box while cleaning. Started playing and fell in love. Console stops working, consults forums and attempts a fix, fix works, He becomes fascinated and starts to learn more and more, the pre-evolved state of the techie, possible to stay as youngling techie as long as he/she presses "B" while evolving into techie.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the ethicist. They're some of the deadlier know-it-alls.

The Ethicist
Holds divine understanding of all things and knows invariably what's best for everyone and the world. They never miss an opportunity to uphold the ultimate justice or fairness of all things and are swift to chastise the ignorant. Their word is absolute and undeniably backed by flawless logic and comprehension of all things.

I guess I'd be a mix between the old school gamer and Tech guy though I don't profess to be a know it all in either. This is just a hobby of mine after all.

I disagree with the attitude that "this is the internet." I see no reason for us to contribute to the dumbening down of our language. Now, busting someone's chops because English isn't their first language and they make some mistakes is unnecessary, but if you claim to be a native speaker and can't keep the forms of there straight then I'm going to come after you.
"Dumbening"? Not to be a pedant, but if we're talking about misusing the language, that's not a word.

But! you know what? I knew what you meant. That's the purpose of language. You didn't have to spell it correctly for me to understand it. That's the great thing about being human and not a mindless computer. I understood your language variant. The same goes for "there/they're/their"; yeah, it maybe gets confusing at times, but it's not like it makes it unreadable. It's too much wasted energy to over-correct people when what they wrote is intelligible.

Also: I'm not just picking on you. I tend to have a canned response to language-change discussions.

The Original Gamer
These know-it-alls were there from the beginning. They had a NES in 1985 or any system when released, so there knowledge is the best because they were there first. All those who come after or just getting into retro, especially systems made before said persons were born, are posers in their eyes and have nothing to offer the retro community. A lot of times they come across as old men yelling at kids to get off the lawn.
Note to self: Next time you talk to a guy who's never played a Final Fantasy game before VII, tell them to GET THE FUCK OFF THE LAWN.

What would you say to someone who has only played a Final Fantasy before VII?

I don't really encounter most of these, except the young-lings. And boy are the arrogant.

How about another type of know-it-all - the:

Perceived know-it-all
Someone who researches on forums, YouTube and Google to learn what they can to solve particular problems, tries them out, and then posts from then onwards that "that is the way to do it" or "that way sucks". You are trying to be immensely helpful, especially on obscure mods and systems that took a lot of working out and research to reach the answer to; but are "perceived" (incorrectly I add) as a know-it-all-ass who is arrogantly stating "this is the definitive method", "my way or no way".

That's my bracket!!  *I can be sooooo misunderstood sometimes* :D

@ the mega drive thing. What the fuck is wrong with calling a Mega Drive a Mega Drive? That's what they are called... It's the yanks that had to be different, you're the only country that calls it a Genesis.
Because Mega Drive is Mega Gay. Genesis is one of the coolest sounding names for a console, ever. In fact, one of the reasons I thought the Genesis was so cool was the name (I'm not even sure I knew about the book of Genesis then, IIRC when I heard them say "a reading from the book of Genesis" I was like "fuck yeah! cheat codes! church rules!")

Besides, the Genesis has an invisible touch-ey, it reaches in, and grabs right hold of your heart!

And that Abacab(b) cheat code in Mortal Kombat wouldn't make sense if it wasn't for that jawsume system name that happened to be the same as Phil Collin's band during his talented years.

damn you, now I have to add another to my list! BUTT FUCK!!! [/tourette's guy]

I think I need to add a couple though:
Political Theorist
Even though it's a fucking game forum, these asshats have to keep bringing up what Obama's doing and then act like they actually know WTF is going on in government because they watch the people on C-SPAN that don't even know what's going on in government for that double "don't know WTF" baked in goodness.

MEME Bastard
While not a know-it-all per se, these will belittle you by posting a highly derogatory MEME rather than properly form a rebuttle to your argument. The ironic thing is that these people never prove knowledge, but just assert they are so jawsume that they don't need to. People that only do this and never contribute anything deserve to be shot.

That's pretty much the Googler combined with the Forum Junkie.

I think you've kinda pointed out the flaw in this whole thread that *gasp* sometimes people just know stuff. Knowing alot doesn't make you a know-it-all. If you talk to someone at NASA about rockets, they'll go all day long, not because they're a know-it-all, it's because that's what they know. They might know a shitload about cars too, it doesn't make them a know-it-all. The only time I have a problem with know-it-alls is when they really don't know anything and misinform everyone and spread myths like CD-Rs ruin DC drives or professional resurfacers remove too much material and ruin discs or clone hardware will mess up your games, etc. etc. To these people, I give a swift FALCCCOOONNN PUUUNNNCCCHHHH of correction.

Indeed, I don't consider myself a know-it-all at all, far from it; although some "perceive" me as such, wrongly. There are lots I don't know about my hobby, lots I will discover but will never know all there is to know, far from it. It's like cars - I can drive one and know about basic stuff like changing a tyre or topping up the tyre air or windscreen water, etc; but anything else, I go to the garage and give them the keys to do it for me! It's like modding for me - I will never know how the electronics works or how it works and integrates, what I want to know is how to reduce the board, video and audio mod it, relocate bits and make the board flatter: just like the car scenario.

The real know-it-all's I find annoying are those that read posts someone made, believe it and then preach and regurgitate the "fact" to others as being fact, even if total rubbish. The only way to know something as actual fact, is to try it out, and improve on the idea as you find it - then you have the "right" to share that knowledge as fact, because, hey, it is fact!
