can you explain why you feel it is important for your kids to play retro games? i just don't understand why you are going to force games on your kids.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Just imagine a kid playing disc (ps3, wii, xbox, gamecube) video games breaking every game or scratching them up. Cartridge alone is best for little one to insert the game.

Lock them in a room with Battletoads. Don't allow them out until they've beaten it.
They'll love classic games forever.

Re: Retro for the little ones - how to start 'em out?
To be honest i started my son off with a v-tech v-smile system it was orange (his fav color now??) and had a arcade stick! lol
The funny thing is i played those games too! The scooby doo game was fun it also had aladdin which was fun and reminded me of the snes game. After a while he grew into playing nes then gamecube (the cube was out when he was 1) He plays older stuff too but I dont tell him what games are good he plays whatever he thinks is fun. I have a mame arcade machine and it has a screensaver mode, it will load random games from random emulators and he will just start playing the games from watching the demo of the games so he likes all kinds of retro games.
He is playing loz oot a lot lately. I will say he has no interest in sega dreamcast??? He says "it's crap dad"
The strangest thing is he likes rpg games the most (besides mario games I should say) and I can not stand playing rpg games at all. I just lose interest in them after 6 hours.

Put Soul Caliber on, maybe he might change his tune on that old Dreamcast.darthbluntedone wrote:To be honest i started my son off with a v-tech v-smile system it was orange (his fav color now??) and had a arcade stick! lol

Re: Retro for the little ones - how to start 'em out?
Simple; to me having kids means leaving a legacy, based on, for better or worse, the parents' values, thoughts, and feelings. I'm looking to share my love of classic gaming, among other positive influences, with my kids. If they don't take to it, so be it! But at least they'll know what their father is about.final fight cd wrote:can you explain why you feel it is important for your kids to play retro games? i just don't understand why you are going to force games on your kids.
Thanks to those with comments about going solid state and simpler games to start, seems very logical. I'd be with the kids the whole time to start, to limit gaming intake initially. I'm an avid runner, and the games would be tempered with actual physical activity later on.
Agree 100% on the 80's TMNT, Transformers, and GI Joe! After watching the originals, they will get the humor behind fensler films

My solution to make kids like classic games is to lock them in a room with battletoads. You don't want to know what my solution to a kid not liking the dreamcast is.darthbluntedone wrote:He is playing loz oot a lot lately. I will say he has no interest in sega dreamcast??? He says "it's crap dad"
