Ok, I have a really silly question, that bottom plug of that socket isn't a 'lamp' one that's controlled by a switch is it? If its not that, try another socket or another cord from some different device since its a universal one. If its still no bueno, I'd say the brick is just bad.

No it isn't a lamp one plug. Guess I will have to find a cord that fits, do any certain electronic use these type of plugs?

Edit: Just found one by random from my printer while setting up the FTP for my oXbox. Looks like the cord was to blame, the brick works now! Any reason why that might happen?

Cords like that are used for computers, printers, monitors, and tons of other stuff. Heck, the 360 power brick uses one that doesn't have the 3rd pin, but is otherwise shaped the same. Just cheap mass produced stuff and a bad one slipped out. If you have any friends that build computers, ask them for one as they'll probably have some extra lying around. I would say its not worth the hassle of sending back the drive adapter for that cord part. Just don't go buy one at the store anywhere unless it's goodwill for $1 or something. If you absolutely cannot get hold of a cord for free or dirt cheap and are in the US, I have spares and could send one for the price of postage so you don't have to go unplug something when using the drive adapter.

Alright thanks. I will look around to see if I can find one for cheap. Not really a hassle since I'm just going to be dumping PS2 ISOs on it once in a while.

I'm currently having the same issue.

I have a Western Digital drive that was formatted for PS2 use with HD Advance 3.0.

Im using a similar USB to IDE adapter and the drive spins up and is clearly on, but Winhiip doesn't recognize it.

I have an HDadvance 3 disc, and a memory card with HDloader and Openps2 loder on it as well.

CRT: Is this the kind of cable i need to run HDL Dump?

What jumpers do you have set on the drive? I seem to recall having it on CS (cable select) or no jumpers at all. I suggest trying it 3 ways:

CS
Master
None

You might also try first bringing Windows Disk Administrator and verify that it sees the drive. If it can't see it, WinHIIP won't detected it.

Ive tried it with master so ill try CS and with no jumper.

Also im running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit if that matters.

Update.

Ok tried it with all three with no success.

Disk management doesn't show the drive at all.

Winhiip only sees my main sata hard drive.

The last time I did this was on XP. I'll see if I can try it again later tonight on my Win7 laptop.

In any case Disk Administrator needs to see the drive (unformatted) or there's no chance of WinHIIP recognizing it.

I tried the drive on my old xp machine and had the same result

It has games loaded on it and they play fine, but i just cant get winhiip or disk management to recognize it.

I guess dump is my only option at this point.
