Seriously though, I don't see what's wrong with being a Tech. I spend most of my time in the Tech Help and Hacks & Mods section because I enjoy helping people, it's very rewarding knowing that something works because of your help. I don't even care that nobody ever has solutions to the problems that I post there. It doesn't matter to me, all that matters is that somebody goes away happy at the end of the day.

@ the mega drive thing. What the fuck is wrong with calling a Mega Drive a Mega Drive? That's what they are called... It's the yanks that had to be different, you're the only country that calls it a Genesis.
Nothings wrong with calling a Mega Drive a Mega Drive, a Super Famicom a Super Famicom or a PC-Engine a PC-Engine. But a Genesis is a Genesis and a Turbo Grafx16 is a Turbo Grafx16 and a Super Nintendo is a Super Nintendo.

Nothings wrong with being a tech but being a tech who is a know-it-all. Remember this is all in good jest, I can be a know-it-all of one of my made up types at times.

Edit: I didn't know what tl;dr means til right this second when I looked it up.

I heart this post. Although, not for the same reasons as a lot of you. 8)

What I love about racketboy is that there are quite a lot of guys here that know it all without being know-it-alls. People tend to be knowledgeable here without being jerks about it (most of the time). The amount of gamer knowledge on this forum is quite impressive. It's even one of the better places to go for help with computer problems thanks to people like Niode staying active in the tech help forum.

I can ask almost any kind of videogame related question here and get an answer. With so many mega-collectors here, odds are somebody knows about some impossibly obscure game and can tell you all about it. I first came here for the hidden gems articles, but then found that there were people making mame arcade cabs, people making videogames themselves, people modding their consoles into handhelds, people discussing the finer points of game design, and people making hilarious music videos to express their love for the NeoGeo. The racketboy collective is quite impressive with knowledge and talents in many areas.

awww, pephary, you made a thread about me! how sweet!

I didn't read the thread, so sorry if I reposted anything said before!

BUTT-HURT!

edit: so I guess I'm the employee (worked for a Play N Trade), the googler (beast at that shit), the original gamer (NES since 1990 yo), the tech (solely did console repair for that Play N Trade and have soft or hard modded almost every system I own, oh, and I'm a Mechanical Engineer), the forum junkie (among the top posters at Sega-16), and the collector (650+ unique physical legitimate games), and when my powers combine, I AM CAPTAIN PLANET!

double edit: I'm also a grammar Nazi.

triple edit: and an ethicist.

looks like i sort of fit into The Youngling category.. considering that most of my retro memories are from what my brother played and when i got the 64, i got really into gaming and that i was born in 1991. although it's hard to say because i have been playing the NES, genesis, and snes since i was a little one at my grandma's house and at home. eh i was just lucky i guess. being from a lower middle class family at the time i got a lot of hand-me-downs. although i would like to say im not really a know-it-all at all, and if im wrong i will admit it, i know that it's something that i can't judge really and only others can.

You forgot the Grammar Nazi.

There - location

Their - belonging

They're - they are.

Just mind the spelling next time. Nonetheless, an interesting read.
