I only speak English, but I'm learning Japanese. I'm suprised at the amount of people who know multiple languages here.

I've known french all my life, but i'm rusty these days as I don't practice. Once knew Creole too, but don't think I remember much of it at all. I took Spanish in college, but aside from a few words I can pick out from a conversation, I don't remember squat.

Was tought Irish Gaelic when I was a little kid by my mother. Though a dead language, apparently I picked it up faster than English and was technically my first language. Pretty cool eh?

I don't know if this is out of topic but...

Are there still native americans in the USA? Do they speak their original language?

Not just the USA, but all over the whole of North and South America. They are a minority, but are still there and do still use their original languages. Some road signs where I am include the local Native language in addition to English.

I have to add, that in North Carolina there are a group of "Native Americans" around Lumberton, that refer to themselves as members of the Lumbee tribe.

About 95% of this is all garbage. They all claim to be related to an Indian princess (Indian's never had princesses) , and most are actually of Caucasian and African American mixed descent.

Even if the person's Mom is white and their Father is black, people will still claim to be a Lumbee.

Yeah, and how many white people here in America don't claim to be the decedent of some European nobility or American president... Everyone has their delusions.

Really? I've not really met anyone who claims that. Sure, I have friends that are name droppers, but none of them claim to be descended from royalty.

Not trying to say this in a bad way, if you are not not in Nevada just look for the casinos! Very Very smart move the tribes did. Reservations are sovereign nations maintaining their own language, culture and government not bound by U.S. government. After being driven out to a desert flatland, century later finally getting back and prospering. My wife's family has "donated" to Indian college, shorter drive then Vegas.
