Man, I feel the exact opposite of that, as far as RPGs are concerned. Handhelds, to me, are made for short-burst arcade-style games. Shmups, Fighters, Run and Guns, Beat 'Em Ups, Sports and all the other types of games that you can cut off at any time without consequence and enjoy in short increments.

RPGs are the most awkward for me. The neck cramps that come from looking down at a screen for hours. The hustle to find a save point when it's time to cut the system off because your number just got called at the DMV. The restrictions of having a multi-hour game on a system that only lasts a few hours unless hooked into a wall. So many reasons that I hate playing RPGs on handhelds, and especially hate the current climate of all the worthwhile RPGs being only handhelds.

Anyway, I will say that my favorite handheld RPG is SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash for the NGPC. No storyline to get wrapped up in, about 95% of the game being battles, and an auto-save/auto-resume when you cut the system on while in mid-battle whether it's your turn or not make it the closest an RPG has ever come to feeling at home on a handheld device.

I find I'm more prone to complete an RPG if I have the option of playing it wherever I am. I can sit on the couch with my wife while she's watching something, or I can pull it out if I'm waiting for an oil change, or I can throw it in the GBPlayer and play it console-style if I feel like being stationary for a while. And not all RPG's require set save-points. For instance, I'm currently playing Phantasy Star (GBA) in this handheld "wherever I am" manner, and you can save at any point in the game.

Having a quick-save function is a great thing for handheld RPG's, you wouldn't know how many times you will need it.

I do have a great deal of GBA RPGs. A GREAT deal of them. More than a bunch by a lot.

And it's specifically because of the GBA Player on the Gamecube. If it were not for that, I would have completely ignored them all.

I do have a few RPGs on the DS. For instance, I have Luminous Arc, Contact and Advance Wars Dual Strike. I think I may have played about 5 hours of them all, combined. I enjoyed them, but if I'm at home, I'll probably be playing a console. If I'm on the go, I'm only going to be bringing one game with me (I've already lost one game by trying to bring multiple cards on the go), and it'll probably be Jump Ultimate Stars, Geometry Wars, or something similar that I can play & enjoy without getting heavily involved in.

I figured it was a given that I mostly play RPG's or anything else on the GBPlayer :) http://www.rfgeneration.com/blogs/noiseredux

For those of you who have played FFTA2 is the law system as asinine as it was in the first? I was ok with the law system, until I got into a battle that was no attack and no magic. It really soured the game to me.

Ive been killing my DS library (thanks to my XL) and after playing alot of Advance Wars and NEctaris (nectaris on my eee) well I wanted some SRPG action.

Rather than jailing, the only penalty for law violation is you don't get extra gear from the judges, and you can't revive your fallen members. They got rid of some of the stupider laws (Fight and DMG2: Animal), but put some crazier ones (missing).

Thanks Amish. Aslong as the system is so bloody banal, it should be a good game. I just wish I could get a DS version of Tactics Ogre. It doesnt even have to be a sequel.

I know we're a retro site (and I don't think I saw any PSP RPGs on this list) but I gotta mention Persona 3 Portable: it is sooo good. I think its the best RPG on the system.
