Cing just filed bankruptcy because they owe a lot of money.

Aww man, you've gotta be kidding me!
I was waiting with bated breath for Last Window and Again! Please God let there at least be European English language releases that I can import...... If it becomes a Trace Memory Wii kind of situation.

Re: Cing shuts down
Kind of sad to hear. I enjoyed both Hotel Dusk and Another Code. I hope we'll still see the sequel to Hotel Dusk that was about to come out.
Is now a good time to buy their games? In case they become hard to find, I mean.
Little King's Story is only £9 on Amazon, but I already spent £50 last month on games and Pokemon HeartGold is out in like 2 weeks
aaargh

Re: Cing shuts down
Plenty of devs have filed for bankruptcy, it doesn't necessarily guarantee they're shutting down.
Tecmo is publishing Again and it's set to be released at the end of the month. Because it's so far along, I'm guessing Again is still on track.
Last I read, Nintendo had added Last Window to their release schedule for around the end of this year, but I can't find the link at the moment. However, with NOA's confusing treatment of Cing's titles here in the states, I'm starting to hope a fan translation gets started soon.
My other hope is that Nintendo (NCL, that is) is smart enough to see an opportunity when it presents itself. Cing has developed some pretty great games for the DS and, from what I've heard, the Wii as well. It would be a great service to Cing if Nintendo would purchase them, as to alleviate their debt, and in return, it'd be a great service to Nintendo's customers who would then continue to have access to the quality titles Cing can provide.

I'm afraid that's wishful thinking, given Nintendo's track record.HellHammer wrote:My other hope is that Nintendo (NCL, that is) is smart enough to see an opportunity when it presents itself. Re: Cing shuts down
Sadly, games like Another Code, Hotel Dusk and Little King's Story simply don't sell well on their respective platforms for the following reasons:
- It's not developed by Nintendo
- It's not published by Nintendo
- They don't appeal to the casual demographic
- They don't appeal to non-gamers
- The hardcore gamers that own the DS and Wii and buy games often for the system are quite a rarity

But I thought Nintendo was the de facto publisher for Cing's games? Otherwise I agree with your other points. Not a broad enough market to sell anything creative nowadays, especially with soaring development and marketing costs. And sadly though I'd love to agree with the market crash theorists the most likely scenario is that the market will become more of a monopoly thanks to the human drones that get exclusively into online shooters and MMOs and never bother to look at anything else.

Why Cing why?
I wasn't expecting much, but this is plain awful.

On a positive note, posts like these will introduce gamers to the games.Niode wrote:Sadly, games like Another Code, Hotel Dusk and Little King's Story simply don't sell well on their respective platforms for the following reasons:So despite having a great track record they simply couldn't keep up with the mountains of shovel ware that sells so well on those particular systems. It seems that great, new IP sells terribly on these platforms, yet new, terrible IP sells greatly.

But yeah, this news sucks.
