It is always a terrible thing when pets or kids damage expensive things. The worst story I know of is a few guys who were playing a monster wargame on a special table that they built that was on a pulley system and could go to where it was only four inches off of the ceiling. They played for two years and one day they went to go play and it turns out that one of the cats had gotten up there and just torn the game apart. Instead of being beaten, he built a new one, with less than an inch gap and a plexi glass shield that they cover the board with before they roll it up.

Another option would be a game table where you can fold up and cover it with a surface. I remember a few years ago they had one at Child's Play; it was a very high quality piece but also quite expensive.

Good call popo, but I just moved to the next step: minis over chits. It is more expensive, time consuming, space consuming...wait why do I do this again?

My Dad's slot car track has a wooden cover made for it that locks into place, it'd probably work for a War Craft/D&D table.

Not video games, but I was playing Magic Cards when my dog ran up and stepped on all of my cards and basically punctured like 20 cards because she kept twirling around as I tried to get her to move the hell off.
