I've been hoping for something like this. This game uses a real guitar that you can plug into your console as well as a guitar amp. As you get better at playing the game, you will be learning how to play guitar. Rock on!
I hope this works and I hope someone does the same thing for keyboards. The tech would be easier for keyboards, so I've always been confused as to why nobody has made anything like that since the old NES Miracle Piano.
Perhaps learning a real intsrument is too frustrating to be as fun as Guitar Hero. I guess we will find out. I hope this thing rocks.

Re: Power Gig: like Guitar Hero, but with a real guitar
This seems to be somewhat of a good idea. Seeing as I've been playing Guitar Hero since Legends of Rock, I know what the colored buttons are and I find the gameplay incredibly stale. Maybe this is the thing that will bring a lot of people back into the music series and get more people into playing a real instrument. I know I'm going to pick it up, though I should probably wait until the eventual price drop around this time next year.
I'll start praying this doesn't become the disappointment known as Rock Revolution.

Konami made one, it was for arcades, pc and ps2. The arcade machine had a half keyboard, and two side by side could be used together kinda like doubles in ddr iirc. The pc version is meant for a certain model of keyboard, by I'm pretty sure there are hacks so any midi keyboard can be used.J T wrote: I hope this works and I hope someone does the same thing for keyboards. Yeah, it's already been made and can work with ANY guitar and ANY PC. It's called Guitar Pro.

That's cool! Although it looks harder to play than sight reading actual music notation. Is the PS2 or PC version available in the US?t0yrobo wrote:Konami made one, it was for arcades, pc and ps2. Not that I know of. The pc version is on Underground Gamer though, I downloaded it once but never got around to trying it.

Yeah, my PC can't run any good programs at all. That's why i like the concept of a console version.Niode wrote:Yeah, it's already been made and can work with ANY guitar and ANY PC. It's called Guitar Pro.

My only hope is that this Power Gig doesn't abuse DLC as much as Rock Band did. And if you say "but Rock Band has great DLC" I beg to differ. They became overrated when they released a Spongebob track pack. Come on, SPONGEBOB IN ROCK BAND?!
If they can put three Spongebob songs, at least put 3 more by some good bands like Anberlin, TREOS, The Graduate or Thrice?
Now if they allow you to download tabs from the internet or online store and learn how to play by using the game, then that'd be a great concept.

Re: Power Gig: like Guitar Hero, but with a real guitar
It's a game I would like to try, but it still doesn't look like how I imagine a great keyboard game would be. I want to be able to hook my Midi keyboard up instead of having to buy some crap peripheral. I want to have graphics like Guitar Hero that make me feel like a rockstar. I want clear reinforcements and punishments while playing like Guitar Hero (crowd cheers, improved audio production based on performance, broken strums, etc.), I want to have musical notation shown in tandem with the kind of setup that Keyboard Freaks already has. I also want to play a variety of genres and have tracks based on actual performances by people like Keith Emerson, Billy Joel, Elton John, Jan Hammer, etc.
Watching that video, I'm not sure if a game like that would make me a better or worse keyboard player. You're following along with a sequencer, so you're forced to play your beats with mechanical precision. That makes for horrible renditions of classical music because there's no stretching of time for emotional emphasis. You can't linger on a note, or rush through trill. I'd like to be able to follow real famous performances for that reason. If you're familiar with the original, you know where they speed up and slow down and the hit detection can be grafted to those points in the song.
I guess I just want Harmonix to team up with M-Audio and make the ultimate MIDI pc keyboard game.
