Skies of Arcadia 2nd disc problem.

Post by retrofire7 »

I bought Skies of Arcadia for the Sega Dreamcast and I am having problems with the 2nd disc. I was testing my disc to see if they work. The first disc worked perfectly, but when I tried to test the 2nd disc, something was wrong.

When the disc is loading, it showed the Sega logo but returned to the Dreamcast menu.
I know this mean that something is wrong with the disc or lens.

I was wondering if I have to play and beat the 1st disc to find out. Please Help.

For starters, it couldn't hurt to wipe it down with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth, I do it with every used disc I buy before I use it for the first time. If that doesn't work, you might need to have it resurfaced at a Play N Trade or somewhere else that has a resurfacer. If they have the JFJ model like this: http://www.jfjdiscrepair.com/aboutproduct.htm tell them to to 10 seconds of coarse sanding, 10 seconds of fine sanding, 2 minutes of #2 liquid, and 2 minutes of #1 liquid and it should work. If the scratches are REALLY deep, go 20, 20, 4 min, 4 min.

It was already resurfaced and as no scratches on it, but I will try the rubbing alcohol when I find some.

Without a huge debate "17DaysOlderThanNES", also try some plastic polish.

For a review of the battle royal this might help you.

As "17DaysOlderThanNES" pointed out, if that resurfacing was done too long or not the right way the store associate might have killed your disc.

I had a similar issue as well: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 17&t=18785

Do you happen to have another DC to try it in? My friend's DC was the same model number, but it was a year newer than mine. Not sure if that is what made the difference, but his booted it up just fine.

Maybe that disc and other games are just more prone to this kind of behavior. I know it sucks to have to use another DC for just one game (mine plays everything else just fine), but if you want to complete the game, you might just have to.

Good luck to you, and let me know if you figure out another solution (other than buying another copy).

I had a friend that never finished the game because the second disc wasn't working, and this was years ago when it was current generation.

Maybe if you can't get it working you can try a burned copy of the second disc.

Unfortunately, due to the size of Skies, the game has never had a really great CDI release. I think the current best is Echelon's release. However, the way they put the data on the disc (sorry I do not know specifics), the second disc will not recognize valid disc 2 saves from the original game. This was one of the first things I tried when I ran into this problem. I put in Echelon's disc 2, and it would not let me load up the end of disc 1 save. However, whenever I borrowed a friend's DC, I put in the second disc, and was able to load up my game just fine.

Perhaps there is another release out there that would be compatible with disc 2 saves from the original, but be warned, you might not be able to finish the game with any releases that are currently out there.

Just re-read your question and no one answered the basic query including me.

Yes, each disc will boot and run with no game save and not go back to the Dreamcast Menu.

That has got to be very frustrating! Halfway slogging thru an Adventure then wham second disc not booting. I think I'll make it a point on any dual disc games to boot them all first. Not sure if any current Gen games have more then one disc.

"retrofire7", maybe you can get another copy somewhere, Craigs List maybe. A better Skies Arcadia is on the Gamecube. Might be worth not having to suffer so many random battles though.
