Except that both the Dreamcast and X-Box run most emulators better than the Wii does. I can confirm that first-hand.aeon wrote:Everyone should just stop arguing and softmod their Wii instead.

Yea, if your going to have a console for emulation, the Xbox is the only one you need. Try playing Metal Slug 2 on the Wii (VC release) it has some of the worst slow downs I have seen so far, I cant believe they ask for money for such a badly optimized emulated game.

First off, Dreamcasts use their own proprietory disc called the GD-ROM, this is twice the size of a normal cd. Secondly, the Dreamcast touted it's ability to play CDs (like many other of the consoles at the time), so Sega allowed it to do that as well. Thirdly,This is pretty much all wrong. No one has hacked the PS3 to be able to play burnt Blu-Ray discs yet. Xbox 360 games are on regular DVDs, thus backups can be made with regular CD-Rs. Modifications would have to be done to just about any console to get it to play back ups. There are a few exceptions (DC, Sega CD, Xbox I believe only needs to be softmodded) but other than that, it's not especially easy to get burnt copies of games to run.ShadicChao wrote:Because the disks they use are closest to cd-r
people pirate ps3 game with blue-ray disks
xbox 360 are used with hd-dvd discs pirate disc
ps2,ps1,saturn,and sega cd also read cd-r pirates
so really no system is safe if a person can mod it and find a blank disc of what its games are made.

this is pretty obvious, im sure as soon as the ps3 is able to play burned blu ray games the scene will be all over it, i do know that they have released a mod chip for the ps3 i cant remember exactly what it does but I do remember that it doesnt do muchPulsar_t wrote:ShadicChao wrote:PharmaceuticalCowboy wrote:

You do realize that Metal Slug 2 was always plagued with slowdown, even in the arcades, right?emwearz wrote:Yea, if your going to have a console for emulation, the Xbox is the only one you need. I'm in agreement with you, based on what this guy has posted.Pulsar_t wrote:4channer scumbag (Yes mod me if you wish he's cleary trolling)
Great point! That's a large part of the reason Metal Slug X was made.AppleQueso wrote:You do realize that Metal Slug 2 was always plagued with slowdown, even in the arcades, right?

Re: Why can dreamcasts read burned cd-r????
I didn't feel like wading through the thread (as usual), so if I repeat something, oh well:
The reason they can read CD-R games is because of a special format called "MIL-CD"
MIL-CDs were a special type of audio disc that had "bonus" Dreamcast content. Hackers discovered that they could fake the audio section of the disc and then put the game data where the MIL-CD bonus features would be. Ultimately, it's just a big exploit, which is how most soft-mods are created (PSP custom firmware, XBOX soft mod, iPhone jailbreak, etc.).
Sega thought by using GD-ROMs (Gigabyte discs) they would prevent piracy since it was a proprietary format (though it was actually just special firmware for the drive since a GD-ROM is really just a way to put more bits per rotation as you approach the outside of the disc), but people discovered they could dump the games through the broadband adapter (which is why those sell for so much, btw) and then burn them as MIL-CDs. It's a very clever hack and makes owning a DC nowadays badass even if you don't pirate thanks to things like VMU save discs and homebrew games like Beats of Rage (unofficial Streets of Rage sequel using SNK characters).
Everyone with a DC should have this disc:

But even so I stand by my statement, if you look at games like FFX which slow down quite a lot when you use Shiva's summon, in pcsx2 this runs at a smooth 60fps (Provided you have a decent gpu), Nintendo should not have released it to the VC in that state, it runs like balls. But valid point.AppleQueso wrote:You do realize that Metal Slug 2 was always plagued with slowdown, even in the arcades, right?emwearz wrote:Yea, if your going to have a console for emulation, the Xbox is the only one you need. Re: Why can dreamcasts read burned cd-r????
yeah, but with newer hardware (PSX onward), it's possible to increase FPS without causing glitches with the code. With older systems, overclocking of any kind often leads to some sort of errors in-game from playing too fast to just out and out glitching and locking up. Also, remember, Wii VC is supposed get as close to the real hardware/game as possible, they don't even translate foreign games. You can make arguments for either side, but at the end of the day, if you want it altered from the stock game, use homebrew emulation. Or play Metal Slug X, which is nearly identical to MS 2 without the slowdown.emwearz wrote:But even so I stand by my statement, if you look at games like FFX which slow down quite a lot when you use Shiva's summon, in pcsx2 this runs at a smooth 60fps (Provided you have a decent gpu), Nintendo should not have released it to the VC in that state, it runs like balls. I'm not trying to be a jackass, but you're coming across as pretty rude. Its like you see some conversation going on, then walk over and push people out of the way and talk louder than everyone else at the original poster. As I said in the other thread, if you can't be bothered to 'listen' to other people, pretty soon nobody is going to listen to you.
Pardon my thread derailment. Though it was a pretty big mess to begin with.
