With the USB<->IDE/SATA cable, I averaged around 20MB/s which meant a 4GB game transfered in 2+ minutes. When I hooked it up via IDE on my older computer, I averaged 6MB/s so an image transfered in 8 minutes. hdl_dumb took ~40 minutes.
hdl_dumb is good for 1-2 games. With a USB converter cable, it's a no brainer to use WinHiip.

If running vista or 7 right click on winhiip icon and click run as administrator and try again
Re: PS2 WinHIIP doesn't detect the HDD
I finally received my USB to IDE cable but for some reason it doesn't work. I don't think that the cable even powers on. This is the adapter that I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-TO-IDE-SATA-S-S ... 3ca5b15fd3
I know for sure I set it up correctly and have read the very simple instructions multiple times but I don't think it powers the HDD on or the computer is just not reading it. I don't think my disc administrator reads the HDD. Is there anyway to reformat the HDD to the original settings and not the PS2 format? I think that would help greatly.

Believe me, avoid all these connection and swapping around headaches. Use PS2 HDAdvance/HDLoader built in install. Just simply dump PS2 discs directly to PS2 internal hard drive. It may not be the quickest but its not bad. You also save time by not having to convert all your PS2 games to ISO on the PC.itsmattxp wrote:I finally received my USB to IDE cable but for some reason it doesn't work. I mentioned earlier how to do a transfer from the PC using a Cat 6 Crossover. I use this method only on large 8gb files. Be sure you have HDAdvance 3.0 disc if you want to go this route.
CRTGAMER wrote:The PS2 HD Advance formated drive may not be recognized through IDE so doubt USB would work. Just simply get a CAT 6 (Not 5) crossover ethernet cable between PS2 and Computer.itsmattxp wrote:How can I tell if Disk Administrator can see my HDD? I do not have an IDE --> USB Adapter but I guess I might invest in one.
I Use HDL Dump using Ethernet Cat 6 crossover cable method , works great and no opening up the PC.

Wow, that's a good price for the adapter.itsmattxp wrote:I finally received my USB to IDE cable but for some reason it doesn't work. I don't think that the cable even powers on. This is the adapter that I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-TO-IDE-SATA-S-S ... 3ca5b15fd3

First off, when you have the power plugged into the drive, you should feel the drive vibrate a little and hear a faint whine. If not, you don't have it plugged in correctly.
The other thing to check are the jumpers. I forget which setting I have mine on but the jumpers should be set to CS (cable select) or M (master). Try both settings until you find one that works.
You can format the drive but the PS2 needs to have it in PS2 format.
Re: PS2 WinHIIP doesn't detect the HDD
I think I am going to go the USB route since I have already bought the adapter. Thanks anyways for linking the FTP way. I am still pissed off that for some reason I can't get the adapter to work. I definitely have hooked it up correctly, maybe the adapter just doesn't work. Really frustrating.

Is the power brick warming up or do you have a multimeter to tell if its putting out any power to the drive?itsmattxp wrote:I think I am going to go the USB route since I have already bought the adapter. What have you exactly tried? Can you take some photos of the jumpers and how you have it setup? Maybe you're missing something obvious?itsmattxp wrote:I think I am going to go the USB route since I have already bought the adapter. Thanks anyways for linking the FTP way. Re: PS2 WinHIIP doesn't detect the HDD
I think it might be a power brick problem because there seems to be a LED light that should light up judging by what I can see on the brick but does not no matter what I do. I'm going to take more pictures after I finish studying and maybe I'm just missing something blatantly obvious.Hobie-wan wrote:Is the power brick warming up or do you have a multimeter to tell if its putting out any power to the drive?itsmattxp wrote:I think I am going to go the USB route since I have already bought the adapter. Alright here are some pics to see if I am either missing something very obvious or this thing just doesn't work.
The HDD I am trying to hook up:

The Components of the USB to IDE Adapter:
Power Supply

IDE to USB Cable:

The Hook up:

The power box doesn't seem to be getting any electricity. The HDD does not move or make a faint sound at all. I don't know if the item is just defective or I am doing something wrong. Please help me!
Edit: The Devise Installation on the manual paper says to do the following:
1.) Confirm device is under master mode (Check)
2.) Connect SATA/IDE connector to SATA/IDE device (Check)
3.) Connect AC power to SATA/IDE device (Check)
4.) Connect cable to USB port of computer. (Check)
