$150 plus for a US duo.
$150 for the duo? really? i have looked online a few times and i have never seen a completed auction go for anywhere near that price. i have always seen hundreds for the duo. even right now i see that a duo has sold for close to $400.
were you able to pick up a duo for $150? if so, that is one hell of a price.
if you took a shit, please put it back
Re: Tell me about the TG16
Here's my advice (I've owned many of the PC Engine variations, although others here have owned more than me):
Get a PC Engine Duo, Duo-R or Duo-RX (all are great systems, although the original Duo sometimes has sound issues that need fixing via cheap parts and soldering). They will play both US and Japanese CD-ROM2 discs and Super CDs (an Arcade card is needed for Arcade CDs, but to be honest this isn't really needed). It will only play Japanese HuCards, but I think you'll find that these are cheaper than their US counterparts... even with shipping. The vast majority of HuCard games you'd probably want are action games (shooters, platformers and puzzle games), so language isn't an issue. Most of the RPGs are on CD, so you can just get the American versions of things like Ys I&II if you want.
If you don't want to drop the couple hundred $$$s required for a Duo system right away, consider a Core Grafx or Core Grafx II. They are the exact same other than the colour scheme. They are better than the original white PCE because they have AV out, where the original only has RF. You can later upgrade to Super CD. The best way to do this is with the Super CD-ROM2 add-on (the brown/orange one that piggy-backs on the PCE). It has the Super System 3.0 card built in, just like the Duo, and it is a reliable system.
PC Engine Duos generally run between $150 plus shipping (Duo) to $300 plus shipping (Duo-RX), although deals can be had sometimes. A Core Grafx should be between $50-100, depending on condition, and a Super CD-ROM2 add-on for between $100-150 plus shipping. These prices can all vary.
Hopefully that helps in addition to the other good advice here!

I got my Duo from Ebay and paid $145 shipped and it came CIB. You can easily get one from Japan for around $200 including shipping.

Yeah, a Japanese system sounds like an all around better buy to me. I'll probably end up sitting on this one though, it'd be awesome if I could manage a good deal (however unlikely). I'd still probably look into getting it modded, if I'm going to drop $150+ on a console I might as well go the extra mile.Breetai wrote:Get a PC Engine Duo, Duo-R or Duo-RX (all are great systems, although the original Duo sometimes has sound issues that need fixing via cheap parts and soldering). Maybe I'm remembering too low from back when I was looking a while back. But I did say 'and up'.final fight cd wrote: were you able to pick up a duo for $150? if so, that is one hell of a price.
