Oh- TF2 is fantastic and I'll be playing it for sure, but it is an entirely different beast.

And why on earth would i ever want to start with CS1.6 when all the hardcore CS players are playing that one? Better or not, i need a chance to get my bearings man! Plus, i don't think CS 1.6 is going to get ported over. All the source stuff is.

This is grand news. Sadly I'm sure the pickings will be slim to start, especially compared to the extensive windows library.

Shame they couldn't write an overall cider (OS X implementation of wine, EA seems to be using it on all of their ports) framework to let the OS X store have all the game up front.

Despite being negative right there I am really excited, been waiting for someone to pickup digital distribution on OSX and was hoping that Valve would be the ones.

Direct2Drive also does digital distribution for Mac. In fact, they have everything on their Mac channel on sale for up to 50% off until 3/11/2010.

Also, GamersGate has Mac games as well.

Hey Nickfil, I wonder if you know the answer to a question I have about this.

Is it up to the publisher to decide if they want to use Steam Play, or is it up to Valve?
As a consumer, I would like Steam Play applied to all games that can be played on both Mac and PC, but I can see publishers wanting people to buy a copy for Mac and a copy for PC. They have to do the work for both, so they will want compensation.

And if the publisher is left to decide, do you guys have some data that would persuade publishers to use Steam Play? The demographic for Steam Play is really people that own both a Mac and PC. I would imagine that if you collected data on how many people in that demographic actually buy the same game on both platforms and compared it against the increased likelihood to purchase a game knowing that it could be played across both platforms, then the data would probably support Steam Play, but it's hard to know without looking at numbers.

Someone on GoG just pointed out that since the Steam Mac announcement, DICE has begun to consider making a Mac version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. More good news for you Mac users. The wheels of change are in motion?

I'd love to be able to play Steam games with my Mac owning friends. It's been a barrier for awhile.
