Why can dreamcasts read burned cd-r????

Post by Vegetto991 »

I know that for the most part they can read burned cd-r but why???? Wouldnt dreamcast have seen this as a way for piracy to take place, its not like ps1 didnt have these problem thought people had to have mod chips for ps1 to do this, so why would dreamcast not put anything in place to keep this from happening?

Because the disks they use are closest to cd-r

people pirate ps3 game with blue-ray disks

xbox 360 are used with hd-dvd discs pirate disc

ps2,ps1,saturn,and sega cd also read cd-r pirates

so really no system is safe if a person can mod it and find a blank disc of what its games are made.

but the diffence is that for the most part these consoles require a modchip which requires either soldering or messing with the system itself, while for the majority of the dreamcasts library all you need is a cd-r disc and the right cd burning program, also to the best of my knowledge you cant really play burned ps3 games on the ps3 because they havent gotten a worthwhile modchip for the ps3

Because the games came on GD-R Sega did not put copy protection on the dreamcast when reading CD-R as games were never intended for the formet, only GD-R. Eventually some smart cookies figured out and created a bootdisc that would allow you to run your backups off a CD-r (After content had been ripped so they would fit the 700mb max), as time went on they started pre-patching games when releasing them online, thus making removing the need for a bootdisc.

The games you play off burnt discs are pre-patched.

Later models fixed this issue and modchips were required.

Go on 4chan.org and click video games and there you will learn how easy it is to play pirated ps3 games because when you put in the burnt game it reads it as a movie but plays it like a game.

not true the dreamcast 2 number cant read burnt game without a modchip vga, or utopia.

Ok, I see quite a bit of disinformation, and just some confusion in this thread. First off, Dreamcasts use their own proprietory disc called the GD-ROM, this is twice the size of a normal cd. Secondly, the Dreamcast touted it's ability to play CDs (like many other of the consoles at the time), so Sega allowed it to do that as well. Thirdly,

This is pretty much all wrong. No one has hacked the PS3 to be able to play burnt Blu-Ray discs yet. Xbox 360 games are on regular DVDs, thus backups can be made with regular CD-Rs. Modifications would have to be done to just about any console to get it to play back ups. There are a few exceptions (DC, Sega CD, Xbox I believe only needs to be softmodded) but other than that, it's not especially easy to get burnt copies of games to run.

Well they did make a mistake, just not as big as you seemed to think it was. I mean if you look at the Saturns protection, it's region method still holds up today.

i was pretty sure that ps3 had not been modded yet, otherwise the games would be all over the net like 360 games
