How good is the official Dreamcast wheel?

Post by Curlypaul »

As the title says?

I've got the DC version of Daytona on the way so is it worth getting the wheel as well?

I have 2 Interact V3's, for Playstation and Dreamcast. The baseplate can be clamped to table or you can place on your lap, plates go under legs. Good feature is steering column height and tilt adjustments. For 18-wheeler you can even set the wheel vertical to get feeling of driving a Mac truck. Definitely brings out realism in driving games.

Well I went ahead and got the sega one sonce it was only £5. Picked it up this afternoon and tried it out with Daytona and Sega Rally. Its not well suited to Sega Rally, even on the highest sensitivit the cars still feel sluggish and unresponsive. However its perfect for Daytona, the cars handle well.

The wheel itself cant be adjusted which is a shame, as is the lack of sucker cups or any other way to stop the thing from moving while you play but the wheel itself is nice and stiff, and gets stiffer the further you turn it. Overall I am pleased with the purchase though.

Great Price!

At car shows,I display Video games out of trunk of my '62. Daytona on the Dreamcast is always popular with driving setup, go figure.

I use Irwin clamps and a Ridgid stand to hold the Steering Wheel or Arcade Stick. Clamps also work great on coffee table with no marring. Home depot carries these. Should have something similar at your neighborhood Hardware stores there.

Yeah I was impressed with price. Came with the outer box and the instructions too, no inner packing but still a good price.

Good thinking with the clamps, I've seen something similar in the local PoundShop which would do the trick.

Is that stand made for gaming? looks like a good place to put a wheel and some pedals. Finding a suitable table is proving difficult

The stand is designed to tilt, used in place of a Table Saw roller stand. Cut wood fed off saw would hit the tilted table, sliding causing tilt angle to adjust while supporting the wood. Very handy, adjustable height, comes with quick release pin to lock table angle. I ran a solid bolt underneath to keep the table at 90 degrees. Ridgid saw stand is proprietary at Home Depot here in the U.S.

Another ideal are those adjustable height tables for the couch.
