New Metroid: Other M Trailer

Post by Kemiroch »

Not much more info than the original trailer, and features no gameplay at all. In fact, it seems like more of a feature film trailer than a video game trailer. Obviously they're going more for story in this installment than in previous Metroids, but I can't say til I play it if that's a bad thing. We don't get much of the story in this trailer, though, aside from a few hints perhaps.

Also the release date is on the site (June 27th). First I had heard of it.

Can't wait!

Since I'm not sure how to link it, there's a link to a cam of the cinematic opening of Metroid: Other M. It contains spoilers for Super Metroid, so be warned.

Wow.

That video was amazing. Can't wait to see it not half cut off on someone's cell phone :) Samus' voice sounds a bit wooden in this video, but it sounds much better in the official trailer and she says some of the same things, so it must be the sound quality of the recording device. I hope so, because some of the other voice acting was rough as well. Also, Samus has a mole? whaaaaat?

Probably the most interesting thing I've read on this game was on Nintendo's official announcement:
"While much of the game is reminiscent of 2-D side-scrollers, players can switch the perspective into 3-D at any time as they explore the twisting passages of a derelict space station and delve deep into a cinematic, never-before-told story of bounty hunter Samus Aran's past."

I don't get it... switching to 1st person restrains movement, or camera movement, or. . . I don't know, I'm afraid the whole 1st to 3rd will end up more of a lame gimmick similar to what the 2d to 3d thing did to Super Paper Mario.

And why won't they continue the story after freakn' Metroid Fusion? I babble. . .

You know, I feel like Samus isn't quite how I would imagine her. I would imagine she would have a nice physique, but that she would be more Amazonian, and kind of mental. She's been completely isolated on alien worlds with no human life and she makes it her mission to kill anything that moves, whether it's trying to kill her or not. I kind of imagine her being brutal and crazy, tweeked out from a life of loneliness and violence.

Let's be fair; our only real interaction with Samus so far has been through the games, which are isolating. But who's to say that constitutes the majority of her work, or what she does in her down time?

You should check out the translated Metroid Manga on the Metroid Database. It's quite good stuff that really fleshes out Samus's character.

As for the first person thing, it looks like it's designed for when you really need to blow something up, or when you want a look around.
