Movies that would actually work as games?
I personally think Fooly Cooly would make a good game.....but that's coming from a person who wishes there was a Godzilla RPG

Well, people forgot those 3 very good movies and they will be perfect for survival horror
house on haunted hill
13 ghosts
and
The Others
There was that movie too but I forgot its name
its where the children are haunting the house, in an old mansion kind of place. I forgot the name but I believe the leading actress opens a book and it has moving pictures by the fireplace
its post '99 and pre 2005
***EDIT***
I got it, its The haunting

Thirteen Ghosts is a good one. Wasn't a big fan of the movie. But might make for a cool game!

How about.. American Pie?
Except you don't play as Jason Biggs. You play as Chuck Sherman - "a sophisticated sex robot, sent back in time to change the future for one lucky lady."
The whole object of the game is to direct Sherman throughout every level on time so that he can reach Nadia before the evil "Stiffmeister" gets to her. If our hero doesn't make to the end of every level before the time runs out, he pisses his pants and you have to start all over from the beginning

Action/scifi movies can translate well into videogames. As for thrillers, pyschological or crime or otherwise, there's potential in them for adventure games but that genre has never been known for movie adaptations.
The thing is, even though there is a good number of decent movie-to-game adaptations, the majority of them are forgettable cash-ins. The Ghostbusters should be considered a textbook example of how to do it right.
Anyway a quick list of movies that offer great material for game adaptations..
Blade Runner (because the first one wasn't enough), Akira (the Amiga game was blasphemous), The Matrix (to be handled by anyone except Shiny), Cube, Run Lola Run (Mirror's Edge mechanics+time travel), Total Recall (as a TPS), Patlabor/VOTOMS (low-grade-mecha simulation), Battle Royale (a survival horror MMO? I'm onto something here
), Pirates of Silicon Valley (business sim
), Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (again, the text AG wasn't enough), 28 Days Later (A Resi clone with minimal combat), any Luc Besson movie, Back to The Future (use your imagination?!), Rambo! Errr what else..Escape From New York, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (a free-roaming action adventure?), Bad Lieutenant (roam around being the bad cop for a change), District 9 (the whole thing is already game-like!), Battlestar Galactica (space sim+RTS, too ambitious and lacks market though), The Dirty Dozen (ala Eidos' Commandos), Ronin (The Getaway-style action title)...

It seems to me with movie to game adaptations that they reallyy only prefer hyped up movies and not actual Good movies.

Killer Klowns From outer Space. With a variety of weapons and locations, Driving Stages, Huge Character List, and and option to play as a Human or a Klown, it could be one of the best FPS's ever. Not to mention the huge final boss.
Sega Genesis (Model 2), Sega CD, Sega 32X, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Game Boy Family, Phillips CD-i Model 910, NES, Atari 5200, Virtual Boy, Atari Jaguar, Playstations 3-4

Hence the numerous cash-ins. I was hoping the Ghostbusters would have sparked more cult/classic game adaptations considering it did pretty well financially but these days it's hard to take artistic risks that could potentially sink entire companies.AgentCupcakes wrote:It seems to me with movie to game adaptations that they reallyy only prefer hyped up movies and not actual Good movies.

I'd like to see an up to date version of BTTF. Having it be a sandbox game would blow my mind. You would be able to go back and forth in time and see your actions alter the future.

The Star Wars Saga
Yes, there were many Star Wars games. But I have never seen a simple 3D Action/Adventure Star Wars game that were exclusively based on the movies. Think about it: a multi-disc action game that went through all six episodes. If Lucas gets the right developers, it could work very well. (Lego Star Wars didn't count.)
