It's tatsu. They use it when they're referring to the Chinese zodiac sign of the Dragon. Strange that they use the kunyomi almost exclusively for referring to a Chinese concept.

It looked nice from Korea, so I thought I'd move here. :)

I sure hope I wasn't too rude in the last post, although I probably was... Like I said, I'm totally fine using Japanese in daily conversation; talking with my in-laws, neighbours, post office clerks, city hall staff, shop assistants, etc. I can read kana just fine and know hundreds of kanji (to be honest, I might be at around 1000 or so by recognition, but I really don't know. I usually guess around 500). My writing absolutely stinks, and I don't care at this point.

Ryuu's kun is tatsu? Haha, I totally recognise that.

Sometimes they use on when referring to Chinese things, but sometimes they use kun. To be honest, I really couldn't tell you any rules... but I can usually guess which is which quite easily. Thanks for reminding me, though. Living in Korea probably helped with that, as the on are usually very similar to the Korean words as well. That's also where I started remembering kanji (or hanja, if you prefer). My first one, five years ago, was 酒.

Me learning Japanese has absolutely nothing to do with video games or anime, for the record. I literally just woke up on a boat going to Fukuoka by accident one Saturday morning after some VERY heavy drinking on Friday night, and thought the country rocked. My first trip to Japan was completely unplanned. I just had a passport (luckily), a plastic shopping bag with some clothes (I was planning to crash at my mate's place) and I borrowed some money from my friend who convinced me to come along. My first night ever in Japan was in a love hotel. Like I said above, this was five years ago.

By the way, I'm completely sober now, eat mainly organic foods and avoid anything chemical (including pharmaceuticals) as best I can. I wouldn't mind the odd puff of grass if it wasn't horribly illegal here (I'm convinced that it's a lot better for you than most medicine is), but, well, it's horribly illegal here and not worth the risk.

-funny how I'd probably fail any Japanese test/exam, but I probably get by better than anyone with credits in Japanese but has little experience in the country. Tests are basically useless (studying is useful), but real world experience is king! That's true if you want to be conversational in any language.

Wait so you were in Korea? But your english is so fluent. So you must've accidently went to Korea first from some English speaking country, then Japan... I see now, it makes sense :D

Cool story
