Fun, short games on PS2

Post by wakeup »

What are some fun and short (<5 hours to complete) games on PS2?

I'm like going though a phrase where I enjoy replaying a short game rather than playing a long game... seems like I always lose interest in a long game nowadays and give up half way...

Give me some recommendations :)

Gungrave and the sequel Gungrave: Overdose.
They'll only take a few hours to beat and they're super fun and high action.

Metal Slug Anthology definitely fits the bill, as do many of the various compilations that were released for the console.

I know exactly what you mean. It takes commitment to play through a long game. And it takes effort to turn it on each time. Short games are just "pick up and go" for when you don't feel like using your head. Some times you just need "no-brainer" games so you don't have to think so hard and can just relax.

Any way, how about The Metal Slug Anthology? I think this is a perfect example, and it's a bunch of games in one!

Other than that, I don't have much (my PS2 collection isn't that great). Only other thing I could recommend is some games that have a free play mode like Driv3r (Driver 3) or The Italian Job... Driver 3 being the better one. It's free play mode can be a lot of fun. If I remember correctly, it also has a survival mode like the first two drivers which can be a lot of fun. There's also Driver Parallel Lines.

The Italian Job has a free play mode, I think, but it also has a time trail mode that was pretty fun. Usually when you're going around in a circle trying to beat a time it gets old fast, but in The Italian Job you're driving through cities and sewers and whatnot. It was a lot of fun for me.

Stuntman is another one. It's main game isn't short, but it has other modes. I remember laughing my ass off on some of the replays, and I know I still have a bunch of them saved on my memory card.

But Metal Slug Anthology is probably more what you're looking for.

edit: Damn, Ack! You beat me to it because of my stupid long post!

Yeah, other compilations would be great like Sonic or Mega Man.

Yeah, I'll definitely recommend the Gungraves.

I'd say any fighter, shmup, or just any arcade-style game would fit the bill as well.

Any of the multi player "Freeplay Play" games. (Sorry Ziggy for stealing) Rayman arena,Tribes Quake 3, Killzone or even Tony hawk (Anyone still play this?). Non-intuitive play then get out when you want.

Short various mini games maybe Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Gungrave sounds awesome.

And honestly, I have NEVER tried tony hawks or even look at someone play for >1 min of the game in my entire life- I think I need to at least try it once haha.

Metal Slug I've played most of the games already- they're great :)

Contra is always so damn hard lol, I was only ever good at the gameboy one.

MSG, I just did a search and realized I was like 60% done already for MGS3 on my save file. I just forgot about the game and never came back to it thinking it would be like another 15 hours to beat the game. Now I think it's more like 3 hours....lol definitely going to finish that game now

Exactly how I feel.

Any more recommendations? I think in my mind, I'm looking for action type games along the lines of gungrave.
