Agreed. I have never heard of this before and it just blew my mind! It sounds like they just want to see the ending or something so why not just look up someone else playing it on Youtube? Very strange. For some reason this reminded me of my hatred for search engines like Google these days. I hate how I try to search for something and all I get is crap links - for example, if I try to search for a band, all I get are tons of links to lyric sites. Not the best example, but all I can think of now. Also, Youtube has never been a favorite site of mine for this reason. I try to search for a band's video or something and I get pages of links of teenagers sitting on their beds playing the song themselves. I am a guitar play so I understand how fun it is. I guess this is the future and everyone with a video camera can record themselves doing who knows what for everyone to see. It stinks because there are some true gems out there as far as independent film or just creative videos and they get lost in the garbage.

Wait, what were we talking about...

I get the same problem, only with consoles.

I don't know, I wouldn't buy them, but I could see it being useful for fighting games that would unlock all the characters. I know I always saw the saves for Super Smash Bros and probably Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Some people will have the game as a social thing, but never really put the time in themselves to unlock everything. And when people come over, they expect to be able to play as any character. To each his own, but hey thats the best kind of business, being able to sell content on an inexpensive piece of hardware - or more frankly selling nothing for something.

I actually never thought of it that way. Good point. I can see this especially desirable for fighting games at a party. I grew up with Mortal Combat being played at every party. The girls playing too. I guess it has been replaced by Super Smash Brothers. I don't remember unlockables be so important back in the day, but it seems like they are very big now - I am recalling the somewhat still on going Street Fighter 4 thread.

Like the poster above said, it's usually for games that have a more "party" atmosphere with a bunch of tedium required to unlock everything (Marvel vs. Capcom 2 sells gamesaves all day long). I could also see it being popular for a game like Gran Turismo 3/4 that could literally take 6 months~1 year of reasonable play time to unlock everything. Now that I say that, I kinda want a PS2 game save device to download a complete GT3/4 save profile. Do those PS2->PS3 memory card adapters work with a PC without hard modding it? I'd love to know.

I don't think you can technically flag the sellers for anything because at the end of the day they're just selling a memory card and if mentioning the saves on it raises the maximum bid, that's eBay. It's especially dumb with Dreamcast VMUs and MVC2 saves, though, because any yokel could get Dream Explorer, a free homebrew tool http://dcisozone.com/downloads/678/Dream-Explorer.html , and burn it in Diskjuggler and transfer the saves himself on the DC.

While we all may suspect they're just pawning GameFAQs saves, we don't really know if they beat it themselves or not. I guess at the end of the day it's a stupidity tax for people too dumb to spend 5 minutes on google to realize that they can do it themselves.

I think people are just trying to cash in on what they can right now. Out of a job? Need money? Sell your game saves.

Not to digress too much, but I'd like to take this opportunity to express my recent frustration with eBay. There are a lot more than the game saves making it suck these days. I absolutely hate shopping for used games (especially retro titles) on there anymore.

It is supposed to be a buyer's market right now, but people are asking for ridiculous prices on things. Every goddamn auction has the exclamation "RARE!" next to it, even if I am pulling up 200+ listings on a refined search.

On top of that, people are too lazy to take their own photos, so they use stock photos or just steal them from other sellers. It's just too much of a circus to even know what you're exactly getting.

Sorry guys, had to vent.

This kind of annoyance with eBay isn't exactly new, though. I remember when eBay first got "Power Sellers," that's when I notice eBay starting to suck. It use to be easy to find what you're looking for. Now you'll try and search for a Nintendo brand SNES controller (for example) and get 100 or so Power Seller auctions for ridiculous BIN's, an equal amount of crappy third part and/or Chinese knock-offs, and you have to look through ALL of them on several pages to find the 5 or so ACTUAL auctions that are Nintendo brand. Pain in the ass.

Had this when I recently bought Criminal Origins for 360. The picture had a boxed version of the non-classics version and stated that the game was in 'very good condition' (the one I actually wanted, I hate those damn classics versions) When I got the game, scratched to fuck, battered case, and to top it off, it was the god-damn classics version!! I had spent ages trying to get my hands on a non-classics version of this game and finally found one for a decent price and it isn't even non-classics. I gave the guy -neg feedback for being a deceitful little shit and got my money back from paypal, I never sent the game back.

Similar scenario happened to me when I ordered a copy of Outrun 2 for Xbox. The auction was listed as "brand new", but when I got the game, it was not sealed and had a giant Microsoft Employee Retail Store sticker on the case covering the entire front. Fortunately, I had an extra Xbox DVD case and just swapped it out. Everything was in mint condition otherwise.

I guess it technically was "brand new" since it had obviously been purchased from a special MS store, but it would have been nice if they had made mention of it in the auction.

Yeah, I just ordered a game that was a sequel to a game I already had. It was said to be in complete and mint condition.

When I get it, it is the game I already had, not the sequel - even though they had a picture of the damn sequel! More over, the case was cracked and it wasn't complete!

I'm hoping the seller just messed up. She said she'll send me the one I wanted, but it hasn't arrived yet. If it's not here by Thursday, I'll be leaving negative feedback - otherwise, I'll just say it was an honest mistake on her part.
