The Sonic Classic Collection

Post by Pulsar_t »

Basically avoid this compilation because it's far from perfect. Sega bought out a homebrew developer by the name of Lordus (Stephan Dittrich) who wrote a pretty good DS emulator for Sega's 16-bit hardware, given the DS hardware limitations. But to implement said emulator in a commercial project reeks of laziness. The music is streamed, not emulated, and the PSG frequency is far from accurate. Slowdown is almost game-breaking but not quite, but maybe the DSi can run the games at full-speed? Anyway this is one to avoid. Porting the games should have been the way to go. Don't take my word for it though, Youtube already has gameplay/review videos posted.

Those vids by RhondoofbloodX are so blurry you can't really take a critical look at the emulation.

This is why you get a PSP 1000 or 2000, put custom firmware, and play everything in Picodrive. Picodrive even supports Sega CD!

To add to your complaints, I saw it at Gamestop today and considered buying it for a second...till I noticed the price.

$29.99 US?!?

Really, Sega? I could buy a copy of Sonic Mega Collection on gamecube, PS2, and xbox for that and still have money left over for a slurpy. That's not a price you should ask for 4 games that, while awesome, have been repackaged a dozen times.

But then I noticed a $20 copy of Knights in the Nightmare complete with CD and my anger faded. For awhile.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

look at you americans complaining about slowdown in this game.

you never had to play THE SLOW PAL VERSIONS of the sonic mega drive games, that's why you complain.

pf the nerve of some people who don't appreciate what they have

lolwut? Sonic runs at full speed on PAL. I know because I have every 16-bit Sonic cart and there's virtually no difference between 50 and 60 Hz televisions, aside from the squashed image.
