Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Game Saves making ebay suck

Post by SegaDreamscape »

Just a rant.

I've noticed a lot recently that people are selling a hell of a lot of game saves on ebay these days and its starting to really annoy me. Its obvious that most of these people are downloading these files free from communitys that upload saves to be passed around freely and selling them for profit. But even aside from the moral ground its starting to make searching for purchases on ebay very difficult. search for a game and half of the results are 100% complete game saves. sometimes theres pages of these files and makes searching a bitch.

Anyways i feel a little better now at least after letting off a little steam.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

Could you filter them out by putting -saves and/or -save in the search?

I do but not allways, sometimes i dont think about it until the saves turn up in the results. thats another negative about it as well, having to edit searches to filter items out that shouldn't be there

Do you think if enough sellers are reported then they will stop? I know I've seen a lot of the same sellers across multiple games doing this. It just seems like selling game saves should be against the eBay TOS just like selling a modded system is.

Honestly, I hate it when I'm searching for a game on eBay, I clearly click the particular game I want, what system I want it for, condition I want it in, etc., to narrow my results exclusively to just the game... and I still get a bunch of crap that is related to the game, but isn't the game.

Save files don't affect me as much since I'm usually going for retro games, but they're still an annoyance - especially considering you can get the same exact save file from gamefaqs.com.

Yeah, I seen those and they are annoying. According to Ebay TOS, "Game Enhancers" are prohibited. I suggest flagging them under that category.

What I can't understand is why some ding dong would spend $60.00 on a game and then pay someone else to beat it for them. Seems to be a complete waste of $60.00 if you ask me not to mention completely robbing yourself from the experience of the game. I can't believe theres even a market for this crap.

I looked through the guy's feedback. He made a bunch of sales of these game saves.
I flagged a couple of his listings stating that they're game enhancers and were downloaded from gamefaqs.com.

Maybe they were not. Anyway, I think it's prohibited to sell any kind of digital stuff, even things like Xbox live cards and so on..unless they send it via snail-mail :)
I've got no signature.
