I got myself a PC Engine.
I have been lusting after a white PC Engine for a few months and I finally got one off Ebay at a good price from Japan. (Console + hook-ups + 2 pads + Tennokoe 2 unit + multitap for US$50. And another $50 shipping...)
Anyway, I finally got it today. I cleaned everything and decided to try it out. I was expecting problems trying to get my TV to display a Japanese signal but I'm planning to do an RGB mod on the Tennokoe anyway. So, one slight problem. I never realised that the Japanese RF plug is different from the European one. So I can't hook it up until I do the RGB mod. I feel rather dumb...
Then I decided to check if the console powers up at all. Ooops again. There is no power indicator anywhere on the blessed little thing.
So I have a sexy little PC Engine and I don't even know if it works. Typical.

Impressive score. I had to pay more for my coregrafx, but still got it for a helluva discount. Any titles you are looking for in particular?

Re: I got myself a PC Engine.
So I started digging through my boxes of console bits-and-pieces and I managed to find a couple of RF leads that fit. It works!
Surprisingly good video quality for an RF output. The controller is cool as well. I like it! Unfortunately I never seem to be able to get any sound on my TVs when I use a console with an RF lead. Weird...
So next step is to RGB mod it (ideally I would like to buy a kit with the booster circuit pre-assembled) and then get more games.
Any suggestions for games which one can play with zero knowledge of reading in Japanese? For now I got Legendary Axe, Son Son 2 and a platformer whose name escapes me at the moment (part 2 of a game featuring the Peach Boy character).

Street fighter 2! It's relatively cheap, and how many kids on your block will have that version

Yup. RF out on a TG-16/PCE is better than composite out on most Genesis/MD.

Shmups and action games. Go read some reviews here. http://www.pcengine.co.uk/

Just a note about http://www.pcengine.co.uk/; they reviews aren't detailed at all. Quite a few of the games that have no rating there are actually really good and worth getting. Still, they have done a pretty good job on that site, so you can basically trust it.

Right, they they're getting there. Placeholders still help you you can at least go look elsewhere with the titles. The gameplay videos they're adding are useful too for getting an idea about the games aside from controls.

Re: I got myself a PC Engine.
I just recently got a TG-16 myself. For free. And with Side-Arms.
I too noticed that the RF looks spectacular on the TG-16. I've got it hooked up to my 42 inch LCD, and it actually looks... sexy. No blurriness or anything. I'm extremely surprised.

Yeah I've definately also noticed this myself. It sure surprised me. I mean the RF out of these systems do kick some serious ass. lol
btw, just for interests sake, would you say it also compares favourably to lets say the composite out of the SNES?
