I have to admit, this is a quality thread. I've never really thought about the effects that collecting can have on a persons life. That's some deep stuff. Letting go and selling off that collection must have been a pretty hard thing to do.

I've been thinking about starting to collect GCN games (When I get a job) , this thread gave me a new perspective on video game collecting. I don't think it's worth paying for a bunch of games I won't even enjoy playing, the shiny cases and instruction manuals aren't worth it.

Video games are meant as a medium for entertainment. If they're just sitting on a shelf for a life time then there useless, and from reading some of the posts here, video game collections can be a pretty heavy burden. So when it comes to retro video games and consoles, I'm happy with emulation. (Dreamcast still has a ways to go though, I'd rather own the console.)
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

Wow...I did the same thing a year and half ago! I collected comics for 15 years. I'm huge Spider-Man fan, but due to the way they have screwd Spider-Man with the One More Day story, restarting the numbers to 1 all the FREEKING TIME, and Marvel stories are getting way too liberial for my taste. Why did you decide to stop collecting comics?

This definitely has some great point of views. I actually just got into collecting a few months ago maybe only around 6 months and I already feel as though I have hit a point where I just want to settle down with my collection at the moment. It took me quite some time to find the games I wanted to own and the games that I can just emulate. As of now I am just trying to maximize the things that I have now. I have just finished getting my original xbox to where I want it to be and am almost finished with my Dreamcast. Once my IDE to USB adapter comes in the mail my PS2 will be where I want it as well. Although I am done buying for now, I think I might add a few more Neo Geo MVS games to my collection once I feel more comfortable with how much money I have now and possibly a Sega Saturn as well.

I've kinda given up on comics as well. I have like 30+ short boxes full of stuff, full runs and all that, and a book shelf full of graphic novels. I just didn't have the space or money to keep up with that hobby any more. It saddens me, cause there was some really good stuff that I was reading when I stopped, such as The Walking Dead, The Goon, Invincible, Flash: Rebirth and the Black Lantern stuff in Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps.

I would like to think that I'll eventually catch up via graphic novels. :D

Kevin Smith's Green Hornet was released yesterday, haven't read it, as I have also given up collecting comics.

I stopped right after World War Hulk, although I will buy Brian Lynch's stuff to help support the guy. When I do read comics, they're usually from the mid 90's, like Peter David's exceptional run on the Incredible Hulk.

Makes me think, we had some great comic based games in the 90's too. Might have to pop in Maximum Carnage tonight. Oh, speaking of, I'm still missing one comic in that series.
