Hockey is definitely the most underrated sport in America (ok, well, that or real football). I lived a few miles from Lake Placid for about a decade of my life, which is probably as hockey devoted as any town in the United States. Otherwise I likely would have never garnered an appreciation for it. Especially with some of my earliest hockey experiences consisting of the Atlanta Knights. (And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the NIGHT! that our flag was still there.) Second to Lake Placid, it doesn't hurt living in New Jersey. There's certainly no lack of Devils' fans here.

Very glad Canada won the games, even if I didn't watch a second of the Olympics this year. They absolutely deserved it.

Edit: I meant to mention, having lived less than two hours from Montreal, that I've never noticed any hostility whatsoever from Quebecers. I've stayed in Paris as well, and I can assure the French are a hell of a lot more hostile.

This whole superiority thing is not at all a lot compared to how much crap we take from Americans in everything else. Sure, maybe you wouldn't act superior but I've had Americans laugh in my face when they found out I was Canadian. So really, a few weeks of us saying we are better then you at something isn't all that bad when Americans have been telling me my entire life that they are better.

Not trying to start something, just trying to make you see where many of us are coming from.
MrHealthy wrote:Haha, ya its not so much the jokes, we are known for making fun of ourselves quite a bit. It's more the fact that a lot of Americans I met either think my opinions don't matter because I am Canadian or automatically assume they will do better then me at something.

Granted, it is happening less often then in the past.

Maybe because I live and grew up in Michigan, but I really haven't seen a lot of this myself. There is a rivalry for sure, we get it here because half of Windsor is Wings fans and half are Leafs fans and they are a different breed for sure. there is the joking back and forth, but I've never really encoutered any on either side that was nasty in nature. Ontario to me my whole life is almost the same as Michigan, heck pre 911 going back and forth was almost like traveling to another state.

Now that the Olympics are over, and the race for the Stanley Cup has resumed, should we start a new topic?

We're already 10 pages deep, and the conversation has shifter over to the NHL, I say just keep it the way it is. A Mod could always change the thread title if necessary.

Didn't know if I should put this in the image dump, or here. Either way, it's pretty good for a laugh:

The Wings are starting to heat up again, I only hope it's too late.

Bruins are really missing Savard, especially on offense. It was nice to see Cooke get "dealt with", but would have been better if they would have won the game as well.

The Hawks still look good, but it seems their momentum is starting to taper down.

Good one, better be careful of what you say, otherwise the content may taken in the other way.

The Red Wing are very likely to secure the last spot in the Western Conf., but I hardly believe they can make it deep in the playoffs (heck, they should be proud they're in the playoffs), due to missing key players and maybe fatigue (the last push can work or hurt).

I don't know if the Sharks will ever move beyond the first round of playoffs; the Bruins are lucky that they are in, but after this year they gotta figure who to keep for the long run, which is very similar with the Hawks.

Well, I do have to give kudos to the Desert Dogs (Yotes), as they are winning games and pushing forward, hiring Dave Tippett was smart for the Yotes, and dumb for the (North) Stars for firing him (last yr was plagued by injuries), its just that this team should be playing in front of fans in Winnipeg. Sigh, hope the NHL moves this team to somewhere else (there are reports that this team is continuing to lose money, even with the NHL at control!)
