My current Gamecube is the one without the digital AV out. I am wondering if i picked up a cheap old cube if i would be able to just take out the drive and swap it with the old one in the old cube? I'm fairly certain it would work. Just wondering if by chance anyone could confirm.
Two reasons why i would want to do this are ..
1. The drive in my current cube has maybe 60 hours on it.
2. I modded it (XenoGC) and i don't feel like de-soldering the chip of and putting it on the old drive.
I'm not to worried about the chip as i am trying my hardest not to be a pirate anymore lolz. It is nice to have the option for pricey games though.
Its to bad the older cubes and a few differences in the bottom part of the case because id rather take the old motherboard (and rear plastic) and put it in my newer (nicer looking) case. Rather then the almost new drive in the old banged up case. hehe
Gamecube: Optical Drive Swap?
Re: Gamecube: Optical Drive Swap?
as you mentioned the Gamecubes with the digital out have a separate power regulator inside them whereas the Gamecubes without them don't. So the way everything is mounted inside will be different.
But you can swap out the optical drive from any Gamecube with one from another.
So swap away.
