Hey everyone! A few years ago when I was in grad school I made this art installation inside one of the critique rooms in the art building. It was a long, short, wide room I built in the corner of the main room. I lined it with carpet and installed black lights in it. On the back wall of it there was a NES set up with TV and my NES game collection. There's a fan in the back for ventilation and the front has blinds on it so you can close off completely from the outside. I practically lived inside this space for the 2 weeks we had it before/during/after Spring Break.
It changed my life. I know blacklights can be lame when you associate pot heads and felt posters to them but in this space, it just made it seem as if you were living in a digital world. The games in this atmosphere were intoxicating and there was no sense of time. We drank beer and ate pizza everyday, and also candy for kicks. I gained 5-10 lbs. I have so many fond memories of it.
