I've done it at least three times.
Easy as pie. Seriously, it's only slightly more difficult than changing the hard-drive on an Xbox 360. 5 minutes, max.
Anyone ever swap PS3 drive?

What? How did you manage that? It's just a straight drive swap.Josh wrote:Good luck. And be careful, when I tried to do it, I ended up ripping the ribbon cable and turning my launch model PS3 into a launch model brick.

I bought my system used so no manual. Sounds very easy, now I need to decide on a drive LOL.

Re: Anyone ever swap PS3 drive?
It hasn't been mentioned yet but the HDD must be a laptop style 2.5" SATA drive. It doesn't matter if it's a SATA II or I because as 7k mentioned you can set the jumper on the drive to be in SATA I mode. The biggest capacity currently available SATA 2.5" drive is 1TB and is the Western Digital Scorpio Blue. It's very expensive and hard to find though.

Chock it all up to reading too fast.Josh wrote:EDIT: I JUST now realized we were talking about the Hard Drive, and not the Blu-Ray Drive. EPIC N00B Mistake, sorry for doing that and making myself look like an idiot. Hard Drive is easy to install and re-install. Just a screwdriver and you're good to go, but I would back up my memory on an external HDD first.
There, n00b mistake hopefully fixed. Now I feel like an idiot.
