Hey guys, Ive got a copy of Tomba I found not long ago in a stack of disc from childhood ( I dont ever remember playing the game!).... anyway... it was scratched up some..... I took it to get it resurfaced at a reputable game store.... it now looks like new but still doesnt play!
Any thoughts!? Any ideas how I can turn this back into a playable game?? This is worth $40 to me so I am really hoping someone has some awesome trick I do not know!

what console are you trying to play it with? PSOne or PS2? also see if it works with a PSone emulator such as espxe. if it still doesn't work, it looks like you lost 40 bucks.

I've heard mixed reports regarding those resurfacing machines. A lot of the time they tend to break discs. This should definitely not be done with a GD-ROM (DC disc) they always break when resurfaced.

If it was resurfaced and still doesn't work its probably toast. If there are scratches in the silver layer on top, then bits of data are gone. The disc could have been bent or gotten to hot or cold and delaminated. Pop the CD into your PC and see if it recognizes it and will show you files on it. You could then either run a scan utility to see if the whole disc is readable, or you could try copying off the files with explorer to a temp folder just to see if they can be read.

Play N Trade charge I think $4 to 8 dollars just for one game disc, which is rip off to me. Play N Trade kinda scam their customers inorder to solve their gaming problems.

I believe that the game doesn't work on a PS2.
Re: PS1 Game Tomba wont play
This. This game is one of the few that has issues with playing on some ps2s (though only the ntsc version, PAL works fine)RefaTheGreat wrote:I believe that the game doesn't work on a PS2.

I have one at my play n trade and it's worked on 99% of the discs wev'e done it on over the past year. Otherwise there were other problems with the disc that a disc buffer couldn't take out. Plus I've had no trouble with GDrom discs, I've had a few of mine done beautifully.Niode wrote:I've heard mixed reports regarding those resurfacing machines. Also, it depends on the machine. Some are cheap models, some are better. If it is one of the manually operated ones, it really depends on the operator. Personally I'd find a place with an automatic one that switches out the pads and applies even pressure to the surface.
Welp, its either pay 4-8 dollars ($5 at my store) to clean the disc or buy another USED copy for 40-50 bucks, and even then perfect condition is not guaranteed. Most places guarantee that disc after it has been resurfaced for the life of the disc.benderx wrote:Play N Trade charge I think $4 to 8 dollars just for one game disc, which is rip off to me. I would also hold the disc up to a nice bright light, and see if there any scratch marks through the label side of the disc. If there is, you've got some irreparable data loss, which is almost never caused by those resurfacing machines because they never touch that side of the disc.

Maybe too late on that Tomba but Automotive Convertible Plastic Window Polish works great.
I have very good luck going this route on the read side. Hand buff in, let dry, then wipe off.
Keep in mind fragile side of discs are the label side. Read side has good layer of clear plastic.

Hobie-wan has good ideal to verify your disc. Computer DVD drive can read a bad disc more easily.
