Dreamcast n00b with stupid question here

Post by RG450 »

When changing disks in a dreamcast, is there any kind of stop function?

I just bought one a few days ago, and have never used one before. It doesn't seem *good* for the machine to just open the lid, but I've never seen any commands on the game menus.

Is this normal, or am I just missing something?

Well it depends on what you're doing. If you are swapping a boot disc for an import or copy you don't hit any stop button because the machine stops it for you, but if you're swapping games all together I'd turn off the machine and ghange em.In short no there ain't any stop button.

I hope my nonsensical ramblings are helpful. :D

That's exactly what I wanted to know.

I was just concerned that I was gonna wreck the drive if I kept opening it while the game was on the menu or whatever.

Thanks for the help :thu:

i have had one for, well 3 for quite some time now and none of them have crapped out on me from doing that. When i do not want to play a game anymore then i just open the lid and change the game rather quickly.

Yeah I got only the one DC and it is probably my most used console and I do it too and have never had any issues, but it's probably best to be as careful with it as possible.

They seem to be becoming too difficult to find a decent machine at a respectable price lately. So I should start taking better care of it. Just the way it stops so quick ,I'm personally concerned that it can't be any good for motor.

Yeah I'm a linux geek ( Although I'm currently using XP.... ew feel dirty) and my experiences with other Linux geeks is why I try to be as nice as possible. We were all n00bs once upon a time. Some people just forget that and think that they are somehow better than other people because they know( or think they know) more than regular people.

Hah I'm a geek that fucking hates other Geeks. Any way ,yeah I've noticed people try to get along a lot better here and try to help one another as best they can.

The machine I'm on right now dual boots XP and Kubuntu.

unfortunately, I don't have much time to use Kubuntu, since all my work apps only run in Windows.
