Some work, some don't?

Post by desoshade »

Hey there. I've just pulled out my old sega saturn from storage and started playing it again. Alot of my disks are ruined now. :( Cracked. Scratched. Lost. So I started downloading the ISO's to burn. I use Nero and Saturn Cue maker to convert mp3 to wav. I use the cue file to burn. But for some reason, many/most of the isos i try to burn won't work on my saturn (swap method until I can find a mod). Does anybody else have this problem? some work and some don't? Or is there something I'm doing wrong with the burn. If I don't convert the mp3 to wav, will there still bemusic in the game? I'm wasting alot of lightscribe cdr's trying to burn games that won't work.

Get yourself some cheapy CD-R's until you get the science down right.

most burning software out there doesn't require you to convert the mp3's to wav. Keep in mind, a lot of guides and tools out there were written and made quite some time ago, prior to burning software that would re-encode on the fly. Nero, Alcohol 120%, toast, etc. all support mp3 to CD-Audio re-encoding on the fly.

As for who or what is doing anything wrong, I don't think any of can assume which is which... it is most likely a combination. You maybe haven't gotten the swap trick down perfectly... maybe you downloaded some bad images... and maybe you've gotten some bad burns or cue sheets. It could be many different things. And when you test bed uses the swap trick, you really introduce a lot of human error.

Try testing the images with Daemon tools (or other virtual CD-ROM drive), and a saturn emulator. The emulators out there may not actually fully PLAY games, but they certainly will boot them up and get you past the bios screen. That's all you want to make sure of, that there isn't any hang ups between boot and title screen. And this way you can test your images with out even burning.

keep in mind, just because it works on an emulator doesn't guarantee it will work on a real Saturn... but it's a VERY good sign.

Hmm. I've been converting mp3 to wav and then using that saturn cue maker to generate my own cue sheet. I have the swap trick down ok because my Clockwork Knight and Legend of oasis games work, but Nights, Bug, Bug too, Casper they don't work. no matter how many times I try the swap. I duno. I'm confused.

Do you check the region of the games before burning? Maybe the games that don't work are from a different region than your console.

maybe i'm downloading from a bad source? I get my isos from coolrom.com. is that a bad place to download from? that's where i go tmy clockwork knight game. my legend of oasis was cracked on the outside where the saturn reads the copy protect, buty i was able to put it in my pc and get the disc info to make a copy and it works ok. But the others I got from coolrom.com don't seem to work. might be the site?

I've downloaded lots of roms from coolrom and all worked, so I doubt the problem is the source.

NiGHTS is notorious for bad dumps, but there is a trick you can try. After you swap, hold down start.
