The point I was trying to make was, what happens when the MMO ends or dies out? What if it never even becomes popular in the first place and lets thousands of people down? These are all questions that are important to ask and make a point about when it comes to capturing a mass audience and holding on to them after the fad ends.J T wrote:Normally, I would agree with you Mod_Man_Extreme: Points don't matter. Collect all the "achievements" you want, it doesn't really matter to me. Why is playing a videogame through its entirety an achievement anyway, right? Points don't mean anything in the real world.
But see, in this game, the points WOULD mean something in the real world. This is a game where you get points by actually going out in the real world and doing something that matters. That's how you win. And if a person is more willing to do something with their life because a videogame made pro-social behavior fun for them and provided some structure to their goals, then right on. I'm not going to judge them for using a videogame to do what they supposedly should have been doing without the game, nor will I begrudge them accollades they get for their good work.
Getting the high score in this Evoke game would be a whole lot more meaningful than getting the high score in say Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong Jr. (no offense Steve Wiebe, I still think you're an inspiration).

Re: Videogames to change the world.
This game sounds really, really boring. It doesn't even sound like a game, If I understand this correctly it's more like a virtual world that gamers may be accustomed to where you can solve real world problems? Maybe this will bring awareness and help to some terrible things, which would be nice, but I'd rather not be included unless...
