Really? You can do that?

My Cable TV and ISP goes out all the time. Daily, even. Every night at around 8pm, and then again at around 2am, the Cable will go out and the exact frame it went out on will be on every channel for about an hour. I've complained many times, but never gotten a reimbursement.

I'd change ISPs/Cable Providers, except that's impossible. Time Warner Cable has a monopoly on my region.

To think the adage that consoles are better then computers relative to having Viruses and Spyware. Seems like all the current Gen systems have their own Spyware like Amazon Kindle.

The wait goes on .............

Fuck Sony - Why? I paid my fucking hard earned money for something that I wanted to enjoy and now I can't. Why? Because they cannot program a damn leap year correctly? JESUS this is 2010, I cannot believe these idiots cannot program a god damned date correctly. Here is an idea, disable the mother fucking date function. What the hell do I care if my PS3 knows what today is. Right now I am wishing I had my fucking RROD back, why, why did I sell it? An asshole and his money are soon parted.

Yet more fuel for the fire pit. Had YLOD on my 60gb 2 months ago. Shipped off to Sony, replaced with identical 60gb unit with all "Updates and Bugs" fixed. Looks like a big bug left that didn't get swatted. It does look purty with the New Shell Sony put on it, though not running.

Wait for the Mayan Calendar 2012 bug.
The beat goes on .............

That's the reason you can't. When your options are either get internet or not you're up shit's creek. If you have multiple competing services you can raise hell and they'll compensate you to keep you on board.
@Niode, Maybe they didnt think it would happen because they already made it through 3 years without it happening?
It's more likely that they decided to hold off on doing anything about it until it was a problem. I can't tell you how many things that are potentially broken that I don't get a chance to fix at work, because we have so many other REALLY broken things, plus all the new stuff we want to get done. Not enough hours in the day.

Draconian, overengineered console woes? Surely not? Funny how the little things get overlooked.

For info, here is the Newswire of Sony's initial anouncement.

Curious what Sony's final response will be now that PS3 Fats are up again.
WASHINGTON (AFP) – Japanese electronics giant Sony warned millions of users of older versions of the PlayStation 3 on Monday not to use the videogame console until it can fix a bug in the system.
"As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network," Sony's online gaming hub and store, Patrick Seybold, a Sony spokesman, said in a post on the Sony PlayStation blog.
Seybold said the problem, which has left many PS3 owners unable to connect to the Internet for more than 24 hours and some unable to even play games offline, was only affecting models released before last year's "slim" PS3.
"We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours," Seybold said.
"In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system," he said.
"Doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data," said Seybold, Sony's senior director for corporate communications and social media.
Some PS3 users had complained on the PlayStation blog that "trophies" they earned for progressing through game levels had disappeared.
Seybold appeared to confirm speculation from PS3 users on the PlayStation blog that the problem was related to the transition from February 28 to March 1.
"We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system," he said.
PS3 owners have deluged the PlayStation blog since Sunday with hundreds of comments and complaints.
"Please fix it as soon as possible. I can't even play my games offline," said "MohammedMK."
"I'm so very worried here. I bought my PS3 real early so please fix it! I don't want a new system," wrote "Destiny89."
Seybold said the problem could result in the date on PS3 systems being reset to January 1, 2000.
When users try to re-set the time and date they receive a message that says "The current date and time could not be obtained."
Users are also unable to play back certain rental videos downloaded from the PlayStation Store.
"We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused," Seybold said.
Sony has been pushing the PS3 as more than just a videogaming console, partnering with Netflix, for example, to allow users to download movies to television sets or computers.
According to market tracking firm NPD Group, Sony has sold 11.4 million PS3s in the United States including 276,900 latest-generation consoles in January.
Since its launch with much fanfare in 2006, the PS3 has boasted power and rich graphics, but at premium prices when compared to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's innovative Wii consoles.
Sony cut the prices on existing models to 299 dollars when the new PS3 went on sale in September.
Soon after Sony slashed the price of its PS3, Microsoft cut the price of its Xbox 360 console, followed by Nintendo, which reduced the price of its Wii for the first time since its 2006 launch.

Sony will do their best to fix it quickly, because it hurts their sales. They likely could care less if someone went out and bought a new console: they manufacture them at a loss anyway, so they're technically losing money every time someone buys a replacement. But they make it back on games, and if the players can't play games, then they won't buy them, and Sony takes a hit.

Sony also doesn't have a history of attempting to force people to upgrade to the latest hardware revision, at least not that I've seen. They didn't do something to my PlayStation to force me to buy a PSOne, and they certainly didn't do anything to my PS2 to make me buy a Slim PS2. Maybe the PSP has been different...but I wouldn't know, as I've never had any desire to purchase one.

Do their consoles have issues? Yes, all consoles do. In general I've found my Sony consoles to be extremely reliable, but others obviously haven't. I've heard Sony has had lots of issues in Europe with the PS3, but I haven't paid much attention since I live in a different region.

As for the PSN acting up, it doesn't affect me, since I don't play my PS3 online anyway. I don't even have it connected(and for the record, mine is a slim). So I'm not worried. If it's just an error with the clock, then hopefully it won't take them too long to fix, and you can bet they're already in damage control mode.

At least they're fixing it. I'm still waiting for Microsoft to email me their shipping information.
