Clarification on the Whatever Fourm?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

If it is decided to split them, just leave this one as the offtopic forum and make the gaming offtopic one a new forum completely.

I highly suggest dsheinem idea as posted here:

Based on what the other posts have suggested, here's what I think makes sense. New forums are marked with ***:

General
---------
***General Gaming (anything that doesn't fit elsewhere)
Together Retro
Game Reviews (I'd move this up the list as it deserves more attention)
***Games as Culture (the Philosophy, Art, and Social Influence of games)
***Game Rooms and Archiving
Downloads
Videos
***Off-Topic (topics not related to gaming)

Marketplace
------------
Buy/Sell/Trade (open to people who have been a member for 30 days or more)
***Game Deals (post deals, brag about finds, etc. - open to all)
***Auctions (eBay links and general discussion of auctions - open to all)

The Garage
----------
Technical Help
Hacks and Mods
Emulation

Platforms
----------
Sega
Nintendo
Sony and Microsoft
***PC
Other Platforms

Genres
----------
Fighters
Shmups
RPG
***Other Genres (RTS, FPS, Sports, Platformers, etc.)
Obviously we would have to tweak it alittle - since we have the Podcast and Home Theater forums and I dont think we need a bragging forum, but overall I think it is the best place to start.

Dunno if we need a deals AND and auction one added. I don't want to encourage too much more of that than we already have.

Also, even though they aren't high-use topics, combining Game Rooms and Archiving seems kinda weird

I like everything as it is. I feel that pretty much anything related directly to gaming can probably be stuck within one of the many forums we already have for games. We have 21 sub-forums, only one of which is for off topic discussions. I think that's a pretty good mix. If we have a forum specifically for "off-topic gaming" it will end up having rehash after rehash, which seems to be the complaint that started all this already. What else is there really to discuss after we've all listed our top 5 snes games and reasons why we hate gamestop? Looking at the whatever forum right now about 50% of the topics are already about games, which seems reasonable to me.

I don't think it needs to be Gaming Whatever and Not Gaming Whatever, but rather based on the merit or content of the discussions.

If everything non-gaming is banished to off-topic I think the quality and variety of the discussions will quickly deteriorate as there will be less people viewing them and weighing in on them.

I see the Whatever forum being at the top of the forum list (as it is now) while the Off-Topic forum would be down at the bottom. The Whatever forum gets as many views and input as it does because it is at the top.

Okiedoke -- that's enough of that...
Seriously folks, people talk about this place going downhill because of rules/moderation, but I think namecalling is more to blame.
Consider this a warning to anyone that this applies to.
