Launch Neo-Geo console owners on day one.

Post by benderx »

Did anyone buy a Neo-Geo console during it launch date in North America? I will someday buy the neo geo. Sure I played a lot of Neo-Geo arcade machines at laundry shops, pizza places, and arcade hangout. I just want to hear about their stories of owning one. I know the biggest problem was the price of games and console. Earliest games were King of monsters, Samurai showdown, puzzle bobble, spinmasters, art of fighting, king of fighter 94. Neo geo for me was rich kids console eventhough I have never met anyone who owned one. Metal Slug series was truly my favorite.
youtube videos are fine as well.

My friend's brother bought one. That's the only person I know of. Only ever played it once back in the day. It was severely off limits on fear of nuggies and swirlies.

thank you Niode, that what I'm talking about it. The reason is
Neo-Geo console launch seems like a mystery. Where were they sold in U.S. and who bought them. Or when did they stop selling Neo- Geo consoles in america. or did someone buy one a few years later after launch, but brand new sealed in the box. or maybe someone who bought the neo geo games at gaming store in the 90's. I'm just interested interested in history of Neo- Geo game owners.

I don't know if i have ever found a brand new sealed neo geo console/ games on store shelves like target, toyrus, kmart, sears, fedco, costco, EB games. I do remember seeing Sin and Punishment at a independant video game store for $80.

Our local (st. louis, mo) Babbages had them back in the day. I remember bowling being the "budget" game at only $150. Everything was behind the counter, and I don't remember them being around very long.

The launch prices alone made them quite a curiosity for an adolescent like myself.

I never saw them in stores. I remember the launches of the SNES and Megadrive and the 32X which was around the same era so it wasn't that I simply weren't in the right places. I don't remember any mainstream gaming stores in the UK such as Electronics Boutique ever promoting the system or having any on shelves. Either that or I simply did not remember them being there. I guess you had to know the right stores to be in to get your hands on them.

Same here, I can remember finding nes games used at stores, I remember the launch of the snes, and lots of other consoles from that period, and when I sit and think about it..........I dont remember ever seeing ONE neo geo ANYTHING in the wild.

I take that back, I remember the neo geo pockets, which is FAR from the neo geo. I have owned one that was as new as it could get as well as a cmvs. Great console if you love the neo geo titles. But even now I still cant afford a 250$ copy of metalslug, some being in the 300+ area.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I remember the launch of the Neo Geo Pocket! They were quite well stocked in most places for a while.

So do I! I think our local Funcoland (could've been somewhere else). I had a few friends who bought near launch because of Sonic Pocket and the fighters but all interest was dropped due to Pokemon. I didn't buy myself a NGPC until 2 years ago.

This lucky kid won a Neo-Geo on Johnny arcade show, video. I'm pretty sure he didn't have the money to buy the games, but lucky for him. I actually almost bought a neo-geo pocket color around the time pokemon snap was released. I wished I never bought pokemon snap instead a good n64 game or neo geo pocket.
