Metal Gear Solid: The Theatre Production

Post by pelham123 »

Attended a theatrical adaptation of the first Metal Gear Solid game last week at my local university here in Ireland, twas fucking hilarious. Props to the guys playing Snake, Ocelot, Raven, Otacon and especially Frank Jaeger who was truly badass. As far as I know this is the only video up on youtube, quality ain't too great, but you get the gist.

Usually I'd post something close to, "We have a video link thread", but that is pretty bad ass.

That looks like it would be a huge laugh to have seen

How many people were there and how did it go down with the crowd? (I just revealed my football tendencies - "crowd" doesn't sound refined enough for the theatre... I should have said audience!)

They did 2 shows, it sold out both nights, my friends and I had to stand for the full 2 hours. It was worth it though, the theater is quite small, I guess there were maybe 70-80 people that night. The crowd loved it, the dialogue in MGS is hilarious anyway, sometimes unintentionally so, I'd say. Ofcourse some of the crowd were pretty hardcore and to the group's credit, every line was spot on. Except when Psycho Mantis was "reading the memory card", apparently Snake was "a big fan of Final Fantasy VII" instead of SOTN... Snake exclaimed, "...it's only the second greatest game of all time" They actually had an original PSX on stage and swapped to the second port!

I hope someone puts up some more footage, it'd definitely be a big hit with the fans.

So did they only do it for the two nights? Or are more performances planned? Do you know if they had someone film it? I know I would pay for a DVD of the performance if one was available. Maybe you can talk them into one more show.
