Re: DC: Issues w/ Sonic Adventure
I have a CDI of SA that is currently 802 MB. I realize DC games utilize GDROM tech, which are have bigger capacities than CDs. I just want to know if others who have backed up Sonic Adventure had similar sized files. I think DiscJuggler only overburns up to 800MB, is that true? I just need to know if I need to find another CDI file. Thanks!

If its a properly made rip, just burn as normal. That 802 is including the error correcting redundancy. The actual space listed that you can burn on CDs is technically more than 700, but most totals you see take out the redundant error correcting from the total. Some image formats end up reflecting that in the image file size.bladerunner wrote:I have a CDI of SA that is currently 802 MB. This exact same thing happened to me when playing Shenmue. I fucking raged when I finally reached the last disc and it would get to the logo and just crash or go back to the system menu. ARGH!pepharytheworm wrote:He got the game from me so I can testify that it played on my dreamcast. I get this problem sometimes too. My last disc of Shenmue won't play and there is no scratches; I could never get it to work. I eventually burned the last disc just so I could finish the game. I also had problems with disc one of Alone in the Dark. It would work eventually though, I just had to try it over and over again several times. The last game I had this issue on was Last Blade 2, I took it back to the store they resurfaced it and then it worked.
Is Battlecorps working fine? It played on my sega cd also.
I have problems with a few games that were all bought brand new on release or soon after, they are; Soul Calibur, Power Stone, Crazy Taxi and Ready 2 Rumble. All my other genuine games work without a hitch, aside from Shenmue's last disc, need to get around to finding another copy of that come to think of it... I just use backups of the games that don't work.
Sometimes the DC would load the games a little more consistently if I loaded the genuine disc with utopia first. They would eventually crap out on me though. Whereas the copies just work all the time for as long as I want, which rules out the PSU issue. I think the worst thing about it is the games work perfectly fine on my friend's DC. I just don't get why the DC is really finicky over these few games and no others. It just doesn't make sense.

Re: DC: Issues w/ Sonic Adventure
Well looking at the game disc itself there is a circular scratch along the edge of the disc. I wouldn't call it a gouge, but knowing the DC is picky, it might be the issue. I am taking it out to get resurfaced after work. I still need to work on a cdr copy though. I burned two coasters last night, so I need to figure this out. The guides seem straightforward, but when ever I overburn, it always wants me to insert another disc to complete the burn. I am in the process of finding a better rip.

Are you burning it as DAO (disc at once)?

Probably not. I'll be sure to check that tonight. I did manage to get DJ to burn it on one disc but once it started finalizing, it just kept spinning and never finished. I ultimately had to abort the burn, and voila, another coaster. These are the settings I am using:Hobie-wan wrote:Are you burning it as DAO (disc at once)?
Advanced Tab:
Mode: Mode 2 Offset: 0 bytes
Block: 2352 TOC: CD-DA
Misc: 'Check' :
Add post-gar to 3rd party images
RAW write
Overburn disc
Anything off here? Also, DJ seemed to be burning at a pretty high rate even though I told it to burn slower and set the max in the options menu at 4x.

I don't use DJ, so I'm not sure what other settings should be without looking online at burning guides. I use nero or A120%. If its a newer burner, it might not let you burn at the slower speed. I can't even select the slower speeds on mine, so I burn on my old laptop.

If you do get it resurfaced let me know, I feel bad for it not working. I could give you a credit for the $5 or pay the resurfacing fee.bladerunner wrote:Well looking at the game disc itself there is a circular scratch along the edge of the disc. I appreciate the offer pephary. I think the store does this for free, but I am not sure. In any case $5 is a great deal for SA. And the disc works until I try to play. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked fine on another DC. We'll see.pepharytheworm wrote:If you do get it resurfaced let me know, I feel bad for it not working. I have A120%, I'll have to give it a try.

Re: DC: Issues w/ Sonic Adventure
So I took the game to have it resurfaced at a local retro game shop. Guy said no problem. I booted it up on his DC, and the same issue as I had at home. He resurfaced it in his machine and now the game does not work at all! He was pretty embarrassed. In exchange he let me have a free game from his $5 bin (as that was how much I paid for the game). I ended up with Quest 64, which is not much of a consolation prize. I just bought a sealed copy of the game off eBay, so here's hoping.
