I used to subscribe to it back then when I was just a lad, and looking back, it's so ridiculously biased. I also suspect (just my opinion) that they took bribes from developers as well, because Tarzan on the N64 somehow managed to get 90% and the Awesome Award.bacteria wrote:The magazine scan was from official Nintendo magazines, in other words, extremely biast towards their own branded products.
I hated their scoring system as well. Nothing ever got worse than 50% and anything worse than 80% meant the game was pretty bad. Their scale was so messed up. Why bother marking games out of 100% if no game ever scored lower than 50?
N64 Magazine was so much better. My friend used to get that and I wish I'd made the switch too.

Nintendo games magazines are basically "propoganda"; not the only offenders mind you, Sony's PlayStation mags were no better; peddling wares so clearly rubbish as if it were great because it was endorced or made by Nintendo.
I got my old magazines very cheaply from car boot sales, about 9p each, I was more interested in the articles that tried to guess what was coming out and failed, be it looks or content, or "first looks" of something that looked so differently to the final product!

Got my two SuperPad 64's in today. I didn't realize they were both brand new! That's a plus. The controller seems very good quality, but the shape is rediculous. I hate the way it feels in my hands.
Another thing, the joystick feels pretty good on it. I wondering if it's even worth putting a Gamecube stick on it or not. Maybe I'll just fit it inside an official N64 controller with the original joystick. Maybe I'll try one of both since I have two of them to play with.

The joystick is very good; downside is it is quite thick.

Are you talking about the controller being thick, or the joystick?
Yes, the controller is thick. It's ridiculous. I feel like my hands are cramping when I'm holding it.
But I also noticed that the joystick is a little taller than the official N64 joystick (about 1/8"). The SuperPad is perfect for some one with huge hands.
I guess I'll test it out for a while, see how responsive it is. If I like it, I could always trim it down a little. I haven't opened it up yet, so I still don't know what it looks like inside.
Also, the box says it's licensed by Nintendo, and has the N64 logo on it. I didn't know that.

May be confusion here - I was saying the SuperPad 64 PLUS had a great joystick not the SuperPad. No idea why they called two controllers by the same first name - they look nothing like each other, and it makes it confusing!

I used to get ONM or NOM or whatever they abbreviated it (I remember at the time it didn't make much sense) but only because they used to get previews and exclusive first looks on upcoming games. Plus they used to give away guides for games quite consistently. I remember the Goldeneye one being excellent, especially for something free, it had full walkthroughs for all the missions on every difficulty plus multi player strategies.Incognito D wrote:I used to subscribe to it back then when I was just a lad, and looking back, it's so ridiculously biased. For reviews I always got Computer and Video Games. They had an out of 5 rating system. So much more useful and is all any reviewer needs to use. 5 star games get the recognition they deserve, 3 star games denote that they are merely average, probably worth playing if you enjoy the type of game or franchise and 1 star meant that you should just avoid it. I've still got hundreds of those magazines in crates. I'm wondering whether or not to sell them, since I just never use them, what sort of money would I get for 'em? Or should I just throw them away?

No!Niode wrote:Or should I just throw them away?
Seriously though, I think there are collector's out there who would buy them from you.
Personally, I still have my huge stash of old NOM magazines and I'll never be able to part with them
