Should probably stay off of the PS3 right now...

Post by videogameexperiment »

I just tried to play Heavy Rain and it kicked me off to the xmbc because it couldn't get trophy information. Figured it was a hardware problem but a quick twitter search shows almost everyone is having the problem.

Reason I say to stay off : my console's year is now set to 1999 and am missing some of my trophies among other things I probably haven't noticed. What kind of bull is it to prevent you from playing a game like Heavy Rain offline because PSN is down. Sony really blew it here.

Huh... I was just on the PS3 two hours ago, and it didn't have any problems.

Oh well, I wasn't planning on getting back on the PS3 today anyway. Any idea if this is affecting all regions? Like, if I signed into my Japanese account, would it be the same deal?

After doing some reading it looks like its only happening to Fat PS3s.

Mine is doing the same thing! Date set back to 1999 and I can't play more than 10 minutes od Bioshock at a time without it freezing (which is really annoying because I'm right at the end!).

I miss cartridges.

I'll leave mine off tonight or until I hear otherwise. I played this morning with no problems. How odd.

I just read an article about this: http://goozernation.com/Gamers/NathanKrott/PSNError.htm
It doesn't give any reasons or suggestions, but it is proof that this is happening.
And I don't even have a PS3

I heard from someone that this same thing happened February 28th of 2008 and 2009, as well. Could have something to do with Leap Year detection/malfunction.
