When collecting, do you buy Terrible Games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Sometimes owning a terrible game can be a badge of honor. Like I have a sealed copy of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch Make My Video for the Sega CD. I consider it one of the prizes of my collection because seriously, who doesn't like white boy rapping? And it's sealed too :D

I have the full 32X library.
I am trying to collect all the PS1 longbox titles.

I have plenty of terrible games that I have purchased on purpose with full knowledge that the game is terrible.

Including Darxide? Is it CIB?

Bah!

No. I also don't have Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV.

I've never even found these anywhere where I could have the option of buying them. If I did, I doubt I'd have the thousands needed for Darxide. I still hold out hope for Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV popping up on a Japanese auction site, though.

Depends.

If a game is SO bad that it is notorious, I will add it to my collection (ie: Ninjabread Man)

I have a basic system for buying my games - if it's Zelda or Resident Evil or Mario, I buy it day one with no questions asked. Even if they are terrible I will still want to buy them.

Then, I scour the trades and internet looking at game reviews and generally buy the top-rated games. I'll pass on things like GTA or COD because they just aren't my cup of tea. When I do my research though, I come across gems like Zack & Wiki etc.

That's just with my "modern" collecting, though.

I can't really say that my retro-collection is fleshed out with crappy games because I've been using this system since the days of Intellivision. Have I owned crappy games? Absolutely.

I would purchase crappy games to get specialty packaging or pack-ins like SNES plastic game protectors.

No, unless the game has some level of nostalgia for me. For example, most people consider Castlequest on NES an awful game. But back when I was 5 or 6 I had it and was obsessed with it. I'd look over the map and imagine all the adventure and intrigue waiting for me. Sadly I never got very far. If it's a terrible game and I have no real interest in playing it, I see no reason to own it. There's mediocre games I want because I'm willing to play them. But if they really aren't fun to play I don't want them.

My two cents is that it's only worth buying crappy games if: (a) you're one of those people who are gunning to get all the games for a console; (b) you can resell it at a higher price; or (c) the crappy game has a unique nostalgic value to you.

Also, Neo Geo AES carts? Which ones did you find at the warehouse?

usually no, but I want to eventually own every US Game gear game, which means I will have to start buying shitty ones soon.

actually..now that I think about it, I haven't beaten a single one of my ~90 games.

To the basement!

Get the good games first, get the crappy games last. Check to see if there's a US copy of Stadium Events, and you're set. :D
