Is a DSWare worth it?
Is a DSWare worth it?
So my DSL broke for the 3rd time and I'm reluctant to repair it again as it would then have cost me more in repairs than to buy the thing in the first place. I was thinking of getting a DSi but the cost to upgrade is quite high just for the bigger screens - Do you think the DSWare is worth bothering with? it all looks pretty drab to me
Re: Is a DSWare worth it?
Just think about when they hack it (DSi mode). Yum... 133mhz... 16mb of RAM... integrated SD card slot... Dericirous!
Re: Is a DSWare worth it?
If you're getting a DSi and you want to play Game Boy games, obviously don't go for it.
From what I understand, DSiWare isn't that good. As far as I know the only good things up there are Wario Ware DIY and Mario vs Donkey Kong 3. Then again I don't have a DSi and don't know anyone that has one so I wouldn't be able to tell you. If they were to get a Virtual Console with old GB/C/A games I'd fine with it but I don't see that happening.

I'd say theres enough to justify DSiWare. Mario vs DK, wario ware, The art style games, some awesome puzzlers by the guys behind the pixeljunk series. Thats just for starters- remember its only a year or so old, theres a lot of good stuff in the pipelines.
Re: Is a DSWare worth it?
I think I'm one of the few people who likes the DSi and its download service. I'd highly recommend it. Pictobits is an awesome game. It pays homage to a lot of great retro nintendo songs and adds a lot to the music/puzzle genre. Dark Void Zero is supposed to be an awesome retro style platformer. Here's a review from a site I like. http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews ... ro_dsiware Shantae is coming out in the next few months too, which is pretty crazy since the original GBC title was such a hidden gem. Oh and there's Dragon's Lair which, yeah I know, its pretty lame but still, I never thought I'd see that game on the DSi.

I'd say you should go for it, because I'm sure Nintendo's going to do a lot more with it later in its life span.
Re: Is a DSWare worth it?
I would find a deal on a used earlier model, and wait for a DS2

Re: Is a DSWare worth it?
I will add that a LOT of the best DSiWare games are puzzle games. If you dont like the genre, then you may find that games you want aren't quite as forthcoming. Thats not to say there aren't good games from other genres on DSiWare, but they're certainly less common.
If you like puzzle games though, theres no shortage of excellent games.

Re: Is a DSWare worth it?
I'd be very wary of buying a DSi for DSware. DSware can only be activated on one DSi, ever, if your DSi breaks, say goodbye to all your dsware, it's non-transferable. Just like VC/Ware on the Wii. Until the system is fully hacked so you can play DSware games you have bought on any system or until there's a sufficient amount of DSi exclusive cartridge games I say you should just get another DSlite. DSi is a complete waste of money.
Since I found out there's no way of transferring VC or Wii-ware on my Wii to another Wii if it breaks I've stopped buying them. I will not support this kind of business practice. Nintendo need to get their act together with some kind account system where you can transfer your licences between systems.

Yeah I agree that non swappable licenses is crap. What DSi only cartridge games are there? I didnt realise there even were any?
