Gamecube Memory Cards-Question

Alright, so I have 4 memory cards, one I have had since 02, and has an i on it, holds a ton and still is going strong,
one from Joytech that is 16mb,

and 2 Madcatz, one 16x and one 1x.

My question is, are these all reliable? I primarily use the "i" one, but I was looking into getting an official one.

Honestly, I've never dealt with 3rd Party memory cards. I don't know anybody that has had a Madkatz card. Personally, I've had a 251 Memory Card that came with my Cube at launch and is still working. I would actually recommend getting a Nintendo 1051, though those may be more expensive (mine was $29.99 and I got it about a year and a half after launch, if memory serves) but it hasn't failed me and has all of the memory from forever ago.

And I have no idea about how many blocks a 16x or a 1x or whatever would hold. But a 1051 block card has held up nicely for me. And I'm pretty sure a 1051 is the highest you can go unless a 3rd party one goes higher, which I don't actually know.

I have the "i" memory card too and it still works great. It's actually an Interact mega memory card, which according to what I've read, is a great 3rd party card.

I know I've had mine since 02-03 or so and I currently use it on my Wii. It's never dropped a save or suffered any ill effects.

My rule of thumb with third-party memory cards in general is to avoid them. I have used official memory cards and never had issues. I have purchased third-party memory cards in past and have had plenty of issues with saves lost/corrupted especially with Madcatz brand. If you can I would recommend the official memory cards for peace of mind!!

With SDLoad you can backup to your PC using Gecko and a SD card.

I have 2 MadCatz 4x (251) cards that I've had for a while. One I bought new when I finally got a GC about 4 years ago, and another I got in a trade about 3 years ago. Granted I don't use my GC a lot, but both are still working fine for me. The later one was obviously used by someone young as it had a ton of kids game saves on it and it's been holding up ok. For the record I have a Madcatz PS2 memory card I bought 9 years ago with my PS2 that I've never had a problem with either.

but i will invest in a 1019 memory card on ebay or something,
then copy the files over to that one.

Same here...I had several PSone cards give me hell back in the day. I think I had a few for Dreamcast that worked alright, but would have trouble being recognized every now and then.

I think the Interact card is the exception to the rule though. I find that the Nintendo cards for GC are just too damn small to be worth it. The interact card has all the space I've ever needed.

That's the route I went, never looked back. Of course, I bought mine in stores a while ago.

I got a 128mb 3rd party one from dealextreme (SKU 4417) and have never had any problems with it. I think the technology in newer memory cards is matured enough that even cheap 3rd party ones shouldn't have the same failure problems that the PS1 era ones did. That being said, I have an official one I've never used and would part with for next-to-nothing.
