Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Are you tempting me to take a little poke at you Luke? You dog.

All of these threads end up being pointless because everyone here is so set in their own way of thinking. It is truly a rare occasion to see someone say "You have a point, I haven't considered that before." It's sad really and we are all to blame for it. The people who think they know it all have the most to learn.

My 2 cents -- like it matters ;)

I think the "mega threads" are especially useful for topics that deviate from the normal conversation here (aka not retro-gaming). You have to admit, it would kinda suck to have a bunch of non-gaming threads show fill up the pages on a gaming forum.

Personally, I think the current state of things is pretty decent. I don't intent on having a ton of stickies and such...

If somebody consistently posts new threads regarding a topic over and over regardless of the fact that there is already a dedicated thread for this topic. Then it's very frustrating for mods to keep having to tidy it up. First time somebody makes a mistake, I will point out the mistake politely and advise them of proper forum etiquette. Second time, I will remind them that they have made this mistake before and remind them again. The third time, that's when I start to get frustrated. If you have to tell somebody 3 or 4 times in a row to do something I'm pretty sure you would get a little peeved as well.

What I don't think people understand is that they may complain that people aren't following 'forum etiquette' but they don't have to clean the aftermath up. We do. Yet judging from this thread, we're the ones getting the flack. This forum would be a complete mess if it wasn't for the stellar job the moderation team carry out here. I'm not tooting my own horn here, I really do think the rest of the moderation team do a great job and that was long before I joined the team.

I guess we don't say it enough, thanks mods (actually I don't think I have ever explicitly said it).

I too am against the Mega stickeys.
If there is a "Whatever" section, it should be filled with the random and Unrelated threads, however, Multiple threads of the same topic within a short span is ridiculous, the part that pisses me off the most is stuff like the Stadium events thing where the forum was filled with multiple topics about the item. The moderation team does an amazing job, But I think that reviving topics is a good way to add information, if people just keep saying "There are threads about this, go look here" then locking the threads, they may have just stopped some development if the topic was discussing some sort of topic that could be built on. Not to mention, people get off topic, it could be an overused topic but it might turn into something cool. Also, I have noticed with many forums about a specific topic, there is always a point where almost everything has been discussed, it gets to a point where someone TRIES to be part of the community and asks a question only to be shut down by the older members and sent to go looking through pages of old, outdated material.

Well, I was talking more about the members than the moderators. I think you guys do a great job overall. I don't often see a mod posting anything rude or inappropriate, at least since Mozgus left anyway.

Apologies if any of my posts seemed to be unappreciative of yours and the other mods efforts. It certainly wasn't intended that way.

For those that hate recurring threads there is always the option of ignoring them. Not every post is relevant to everyone.

As someone who's been here for less than 2 weeks, I haven't sensed any sort of hostility towards new members. In fact, members have generally been helpful and courteous towards any posts/threads I've made.

But regarding the topic at hand, the only big suggestion I have is to make an Off-Topic forum, and maybe try to break up Whatever into a couple other gaming-related subforums. It's a little off-putting to see these movie/books/whatever threads cluttering up a place where people also discuss gaming (the purpose of these forums). Pretty much every other forum I go to (or used to go to) has a dedicated Off-Topic subforum where people can just discuss whatever they want that isn't pertinent to the site's main focus, and this helps neaten things up a bit.

And regarding duplicate threads, keep doing what you're doing, mods. I've seen forums where the mods don't pay much attention to stuff like that; it's not pretty. Disorganized forums are bad for everyone, and I applaud the mods for doing what they think is best to try to keep things looking tidy and running smooth.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.
