sensing a rift

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I like the idea of a FAQ sticky in the most active forum areas with short answers to the most common questions and links to the dedicated threads for those questions.

As a "newer" member I have to say the community is usually pretty good. This is the only forum I use and has been a god send when it comes to educating myself when it came to a hobby I had been doing for a few years. I have a couple trades and transactions go well and even scored an autographed shirt from Nathan Barnatt. So I would think most new people coming in can't expect to be one of the gang from day one. Some people with high post counts have been rude to people who are new and maybe like myself not up with proper forum behavior or lingo. But this forum like real life is full of great people with a sprinkling of a few jerks. The good far out weighs the bad in my opinion. So as a newb I feel my opinion would be that of the majority in that Racketboy is an awesome site/forum and is easily enjoyed. Because really at the end of the day were all here for the same reason our passion for gaming.

I love RB! (The Site, not the dude, but if his every in Melbourne  )

I think the forums work great, if the didnt mod it in the way they did it would be every second post with "Hi im bob" & "I cant burn my Saturn game' so linking to threads is good, helps keep everything clean.

The forums are full of awesome people, who help each other out, I LOVESSSS IT.

I have noticed that when some big retrogame news comes out, like about sonic 4 or whatever, we get sometimes as many as three new threads saying the exact same things. The second and third posters have obviously not checked the forum, and deserved to be called out for being idiots. I think the current system, where idiots are labeled as such by other forum members, works just fine :)

This is good *if* people actually look/read it. There's another forum that I'm active in that has several stickies for this one section. You would be surprised how many noob posts who clearly did not look at them. It was so bad that something like 80% of the new threads could have been answered/solved by looking at the stickies.

The end result: the experts stopped reading the section and the noobs just flail around with each other, going nowhere.

A forum has to have the right balance of new interesting stuff and not so much of the same old thing.

Agreed.

I second that emotion.

Oh dear Lord, I hope I haven't acted like a mini-mod. I try to remind people, politely, that we have had a video link thread, but sometimes a video warrants its own thread (at least to some people).

I think the mods, and plenty of users, would like to see a more efficient, stream-lined forum.

All that said, I'm not sure that this thread is going to benefit anyone, I mean, don't we already have a forum suggestion thread? This almost defeats the purpose of that thread.
