Your bad habits

Post by CFFJR »

So, as the topic title says, what are your rpg bad habits? Things you know better than to do, but almost always end up doing from game to game anyway?

As a for instance and to get this topic started, here's mine.

I rush, like crazy. Especially if I really like the game. Usually what will happen is I'll get caught up in the story, and in the interest of getting to the next scene as quickly as possible I'll wind up skipping battles constantly.

I know this is extremely stupid, but I frequently do it anyway. As a result I'm usually horribly under leveled and at some point I always get stuck, usually at the final boss, nowhere near prepared enough to win. Sometimes I'll go back and level up from there, but other times I get frustrated and just stop playing.

I don't do that with every rpg mind you, but I've screwed myself over this way enough times that I definitely consider it a bad habit.

So, that's mine. Who's next?

I have the exact opposite i spend time leveling and doing sidequests up to the point the game has become too easy. At which point i run the risk of quitting because im bored with it or i have spent way to many hours a day so that i need to take a break for a few days.

I'm like arion, I've actually spent so much time grinding in a few games that I'd forgotten what was happening in the storyline.

Getting frustrated and quitting is my main problem with RPGs.

I get almost to the end of the game but don't want to beat it yet. So, I stop for a while and end up not playing again or a longtime after where I have to lern the game and forgot most of the story.

Doing so many of the sidequest or leveling up that I eventually get bored of the game trying to get 100% completion.

Reading walkthroughs, I don't do it all the time but when I do it takes the fun out of the game.

Wanting to beat the game in a hurry, so I say I will do some of the sidequest later. I beat the game then loose interest in doing the rest of the sidequest.

And my worst RPG habit is always buying them even when I have too many I haven't beat or even played. I have played through 52 RPGs but I own 118. I can't stop myself from buying them when I see them at a good price. Its reallly hard to pick your next rpg to play when you have 60 to choose from.

I have to have a character I like to get through any long stories. Be it a Book, TV show, or RPG. So when I cant find a character I like in an RPG, even if it is great by all other standards, I will lose interest quickly.

That and either over or underleveling.

Picking up a RPG after I haven't played it in a while and not knowing what the hell is going on.

Buying RPG's that I don't finish, or really even start.

Worse, is when I play a game every day, putting 40+ hours in, than skipping a day or two thinking it's no big deal, and then real life intervenes or I spend time on another genre of game and the RPG never gets finished.... i've got a drawer full of games with teeny, tiny RPG characters forever walking in place at some inn.

Procrastination.

add: Like reading books, I'll start one and just let it set around until I finally decide to finish it.
