Sorry to butt in, but I'm looking to buy a Saturn soon, and so far my accessories checklist (apart from a 2nd controller) includes the modchip and a RAM cart. As a final word, which cart is the best cart for the Saturn?
Well all I said was to stay away from the GameShark, which is not a RAM cart anyway.
The Racketboy cart is alright, if that's all you want out of it is the RAM. The Pro Action Replay has the same features plus cheat codes plus the ability to boot imports. With the Racketboy RAM cart, you don't have to boot into anything before the game, with the PAR cart you have to boot into it and press a button to start loading the game. But the PAR has more features.
personally i would recommend modding the saturn. Its not that pricey and its easy. Pros is that you can burn iso and patch the region so u dont have to buy imports. Cons is that if your purist you wont be satisfied playing pirate stuff. But from experience i do prefer modding and playing the real deal rather than emulations.

Yes, it saves as well, but you can't save to the cart from with in the game (like you can with a regular memory cart). You can only backup your saves to it. So, if you wanna use it for saves, you would have to save to the system memory then copy it to the cart. Pretty annoying if you ask me.
Ok well I think I have made my mind. Im not going to mod the Saturn, for now.
I just burnt a patched Radiant silvergun, and did the swap method on my Model 1 Saturn and it was very very easy. Since I have 2 saturns, I wont worry about swapping too much, and ill be using emulation for most of my Saturn gaming, and swap method for those games that either dont work or arent perfect.
